Rotor change in 03 X5 4.4
 

Hi
Am thinking of switching out my stock rotors for a set of slotted/cross drilled set front and/or back to go along with an upgrade of my current pads. Anybody done this as a DIY job or had their dealer or independant shop do it? If so what was the cost; any instructions online avail for DIY? Equipment needed?

Also what recs do folks have for upgrading brake pads? My OEM's produce too much dust for my liking and I'd like to get something both quieter and less dust producing. This is my daily driver by the way...no track or autocross with it...not that I can see myself doing that with an X5. I'll save that for other cars in the stable.

I use the Axxis Deluxe pads, happy with the performance and no dust.

I got them from Zeckhausen (http://www.zeckhausen.com/), they were great to deal with. I know they have Centric rotors as well. I wouldn't have drilled rotors myself, or slotted, but if you must then recommend you go slotted instead of drilled. Zeckhausen have slotted Centric rotors that shouldn't have too much of a performance decrease over stock rotors.

I did my brakes myself, but I have a background as a mechanic years ago. If you are mechanically inclined, there are articles on the home page that describe how. If you have never worked on brakes before, remember that they are a critical safety system. If you have a mechanically-inclined friend, great, perhaps you could do them together.

I went with brembo slotted rotors and hawk ceramic performance pads. not too difficult and the rear brakes get dirty before the fronts.
I like the performance upgrade as far as the brakes go

would you say this set-up is better than stock?
