Suspension Replacement Cost?
 

My '02 3.0 went in to the dealer for the steering wheel pump -- under warranty...thank god. However, the dealer said my front suspension needs to be replaced and quoted me $1500 for both fronts: left and right side. I have the sport suspension.

Has anybody got their front suspension replaced? What kind/brand did you get? How much did you pay?

What exactly does "suspension replaced" entail? That is a bit ambiguous. Are you talking about the front struts?

I suspect you are talking about ball-joints, bushings and control arms etc. and they do run around $1500 - $2000 when done by the dealer. I would look for a good indy shop who can easily do this work for a lot less.

The control arm / ball joints / bushing is one piece and costs ~ $150-200 per side for the part alone... $1500 to replace this is outrageous... Even the stealer shouldn't charge more than $900... A good indy will charge ~$600 or so...

Sorry for not being clear -- the front struts need to be replaced. The dealer quoted me $1500 for replacing left and right front struts.

Also, should I replace all 4 shocks/struts?

A independent mechanic quoted me $920 for replacing the two front struts -- price includes parts and labor. Ouch! Still saving some money from the dealer.

What are the symptoms of bad struts?

Uncontrollable oscillations over bumps
