how do i spot a replica
...if i do not know/trust the seller?
i am offered to exchange my style 132 19" wheels with a 20" wheels (where can i see the pictures with oem wheels so i can identify what style are they?). the owner says he do not want any money from me for the exchange, the tyres are good, where is the trick?   i am thinking maybe his wheels are replica, but he says they are not. how can i spot a oem wheel? please help, as this is a good deal for me - i have been dreaming about 20"-es for long time now. |
An OEM wheel will have BMW stamped on the inside. Read carefully as some replica wheels will have BWM stamped instead. There are some good quality replicas out there too...

You can also check the Roundel, most replica wheels will use a smaller center cap then OEM to avoid patent laws.

but, now when you said that, i am positive he is trying to push me a replica. thank you for your help all who answered. |
There isn't anything wrong with well built replicas, the only issue is a person trying to push a rep for the price of OEM.
Make it obvious, I'd go back with a tape measurer and measure the OEM in front of him, then measure 'his' wheel. I wouldn't think it is too shady that he would want to trade wheels, lots of people get 20's then feel the ride is too harsh. So a OEM swap is normal, however..you may be on to something with this guy. |
i agree that replicas can be good built. the thing is, i asked him wether it is a replica and he said no.
