what tires for 2003 bmw x5???
 

Hey, I'm new to this forum and have a 2003 bmw x5 4.4i

I have the 19" rims that you get with the sport package upgrade and 19" update. they look like this:

and i'm paying 350 for each michelin tire, i'm thinking these are the best, because they came with my x5 when i bought it new. well my question was do you guys think that i can get a different type for example...continental, good year, etc. and still have the same performance?

please let me know, because with the bad economy right now...1400 hundred a year for a set of tires is pretty costly.

I know I have a set of 19" Continental Cross Contact on my wifes Range Rover Sport & they SUCK!



If you had 18" Like I do on my 2003 4.4 I'd say get the Michelin Energy MXV4 which came on the car and also lasted me 62K. I'm at 106K now and have a while to go with them

The 18: Michelin Energy MXV4 has lasted me 62K the first time around...Those are the stock tires and then I replaced with the same tires and at 106k miles im still in great shape!

Make sure you take care of them, Alignment and rotation.

i currently have damarisX or something like that on my x5. and it always blows out. i think last month marked the 3rd time it blew out on me on the highway. is it because i was going too fast? there was an accident, so we had been at a stop for a long time. once we passed the accident, i stepped up to about 4000rpm and was going at around 80...

yes, alignment and rotation (6,000 miles) for sure. many more miles out of them. I am at 50+K with our stock Michelin Energy plus.

for you boys in New York, don't forget the winter tires! craigslist for cheap extra set of rims...

17 or 18" rims with dedicated snow tires - don't wring your hands too much about which brand snow tire to get. All of the standard top tier companies have comparable snow tires - bridgestone blizzak, Dunlop winter sport, Pirelli scorpion etc. etc. I have driven most of them over the years and really didn't see a difference. You could pick up a used set on here, Craigs list etc. or buy a replica set with tires from tire rack or one of the other sites.

If you are concerned about mileage, any summer tire will have the least tread life. You could go 19" all season for longer tread life (if you are planning on getting a winter set anyway) but may sacrifice some handling depending on how much you push your X. Michelin latitudes get good reviews here. A friend of mine in the tire biz is raving about Hankook Ventos all seasons now.....but I don't have any experience with this brand.
