Yellow Calipers

I removed the calipers and brackets off my new X5 and painted them yellow, also replaced the brake pads with ceramic ones and now have only one third the brake dust.

Have done 700klms and if anything the brakes are better!

I used a good quality brake paint out of a spray can from a Automotive shop ( not a cheap imported product). There is about 8 coats of paint on each caliper then 2 coats of clear. The paint is rated to 900C.

The trick is to completely remove all grease & grim, then a light sand and a clean down with thinners. It;s best done by removing the caliper & brackets completely off the car. Took me 2 days.

Used CarboTech from the States. The front rotors are 348mm x 30mm, no one carries the front pads yet as the blanks are not available (D1294 - Galfer 5007) so you have to have a used front set or buy another new set from BMW (or ship them your front set) and ship them to CarboTech and they will place there ceramic compound onto the backing plate.

The rears are available (D919) so there is no problem getting them from CarboTech.

I asked CarboTech to go to a BMW dealer, buy a set of front pads, strip the BMW compound off and place there ceramic compound on, which they did. Took 10 days all up and i had them hear in Australia

I did the same thing on mine last weekend. I think the yellow calipers look great. Put the EBC yellow stuff pads on all the way around too. I like it!
