Need new brakes for the X5

I got the "Pads below minimum thickness" warning on my 2008 X5 3.0.

I know on my M5, that only comes on when the pad material is really low and I have to replace a cable that triggered the warning as well.

On the X5 though, it looks like I have a lot of pad material all around and I don't know what set off the warning. Do I have to replace the cable as well on the X5?
