Wheel hub boring in Tri-State area recommendations
I bought X6 wheel set for my X5 and the rear hubs are smaller (72.5mm vs 74.0mm).
Boring the rear wheels to 74.1mm vs. Buying the H&R Trak+ adapters 20mm: Pro: Don't have to explain to the wheel/tire shop how to install or remove the hub adapters every six months! Pro: Don't have buy the hub adapters Pro: A member posted that vibration may be a problem when using hub adapters Pro: Wheels, already staggered, will stick out even more in rear with adapters Con: Have to find a wheel shop that I can trust to do a good job of the hub boring Con: Possible wheel integrity I know that there are some that will recommend against hub boring but it is so little to remove that I can't believe that a "professional" can't do it right. I have read posts of guys that even did it using a dremel tool (although that wasn't on an X6 wheel). I AM looking for a pro job. As far as hub boring goes, I was given a recommendation of JD Machine in Manchester, CT. They have since gone out of business. Anyone have any other recommendations in the NY Tri-State area for wheel hub boring? Actually, anyone have any recommendations in New England (as I tend to get to MA, RI, NH, etc.) Thanks |
Decided to forget about wheel boring and purchase the H&R hub adapters instead.

Elite in Plainview Long Island is the big one. Many of the wheel fix it companies actually take their jobs to Elite and just act as middlemen (although most customers don't know this). I just go direct to Elite. They do all the work on my wheels for all of my cars.
I used to do Al's, but after his last venture to expand went belly up, he ended up selling most of his state of the art equipment to Elite...along with most of his crew. I also believe there is a high end shop in Rockland County -- Pro(something...not sure the full name). |

Only one I can find in Rockland County, with "pro" is AutoPro but they are auto parts. |
These guys are good. They repaired a bbs wheel for me. Quality shop that can do it all.
PROFORMANCEINDUSTRIES - HOME |
Thanks Tony. Yours is the 2nd recommendation for them. Did send them an email (as I've traveling) but I'll have to follow up with phone call next week.

Yes, Proformance in New Rochelle just off of 95 can do it. Ask for Mario. They do all their work in house. I just had my wheels powdercoated there and they came out fanastic.

Thanks. I did have the former X6 rear wheels bored out by Proformance Industries to fit my X5.
Unfortunately, it took about a month for them to do the boring, balance the wheels and to schedule a time (that worked for them) to get the wheels mounted... I had to make so many phone calls and leave so many messages (without call backs). But Mario is a great guy and they do good work. |
