4.8is owners, what are you running for winter setup? Why?

Looking for a second set of wheels/tires for the winter. I have 04 4.8is with factory 20"s and would like 19" or 18" if they fit but not sure what to expect? Likely to get blizzaks for tires as I heard and read good reviews!

What are your thoughts on the wheel size for the 4.8? Will 18" fit over the caliper?

I used to have 18" on my 4.8is and the pics are in the "Articles section". I switched to 19" style 298M with Pirelli as liked the look of them better. ;) But 18" will work just fine. Which stye 18" do you have in mind?

I have not decided yet LeMansX5, but the ones in the pictures you attached are looking really good! Are those 18" or 19"? They look almost like the factory 20's yet look good. Are those the 298M? What is the width? Did you put spacers on those? Looking at your 18's before the spacers, not sure I'm going to like the deep into the wheel well look? I like the wheel to be flush with the arches so 19's might be the ticket! Thx for your thoughts!

The 18" were style 87 replicas. I ended up putting 30mm spacers as shown in pics at the bottom of the page

The 298M's from X5 M are 19" and fit well. I have used H&R hub adapters from ECS for front to match the hub bore. Rears need no adapters.

If you are not driving in heavy snow all the time 19" should be fine.

I used stock 132's with 19" Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snows. They were phenomenal in the heavy snow and and under braking. I've got an additional set of OEM 132's if you're interested.

I would but I'm thinking it might be cost prohibitive to get those shipped over to MN. Not sure what you would ask for them and what condition they are in? Are they wheels only or + tires?

Wheels only and it's about $200 for shipping all 4. Im asking $600 for the set.

Style 74s with 18" Dunlop winter tires, M2s I think. I have used these Dunlops on various vehicles and they have tremendous traction. The 74s came with the 4.4 when I bought it and I have also run them on the 4.8.

Thx for the info but out of my price range for a used set. I'm sure they are worth it!

Follow up questions on winter setup discussion

New to the group but not to BMW. Currently driving a 2004 X5 3.0 but ordered a 2013 X5 35i Sport with the 20" 214 style wheels that should be arriving sometime in July. Since I am in NY I will need to get a winter tire setup. Have been going through the several threads on the subject and really like the 298M style wheels, particularly since they have the smaller offset to fill out the flared fenders. But there is conflicting info on using them on a non-M X5 with regard to the hub size. Someone even asked about using 298M front wheels on all four corners but never got an answer.

LeMansX5 seems to be in the know since you actually have them installed rather than speculating. You posted that the rears didn't need adapters but the fronts did. Everyone else said the opposite. So which is it and what adapters from H&R are required? A link to the specific part would be helpful, since there is also conflicting info on this. Would prefer to get the info from someone that has actually done it.

Also have there been any issues removing the adapters in the Spring to mount the summer wheels due to winter grime?

Thanks,
PeteJ
