Looking to purchase new tires...
Hello,
I just got back from the dealership and they mentioned that after only 8900 miles on my current set of BMW OEM Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport RFT, I need new tires. I was told the tires are "choppy!" I have been looking on Tire Rack and am considering purchasing the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. If you are using those, what is your opinion? If you are using something else, please explain why you chose them. I am looking for tires that quiet, perform well on dry and wet surfaces as well as in light snow. Also, I don't want them to break the bank. Thanks, Donald |
Donald-
I know this is an older thread, but i can tell you that the Continental DWS is a fantastic tire. We have used it on many of our customer 3 and 5 series cars. It performs well and handles great! Its treadlife is truly second to none. Let me know if you still need some help with tires and we are happy to help! |

I am still interested in purchasing the Continental DWS. I have been watching them on Tire Rack and the price has been increasing every day. They are now $272 per tire. Do you know where I can get them for a cheaper price? Thanks, Donald |
First, I would go look at my tires, carefully; 'choppy'? WTF is that? A technical 'diagnosis' by someone that wants to sell tires at ~$400 a tire?
Doesn't mean the tires aren't gonzo, but I would look closely, and do a simple tread depth measurement. As for 'cheaper', copy & paste that tire brand into GOOG and see what happens, though TR, Discount Tire, et al, tend to have the best pricing, imo. GL, mD |
Just put on a set of 20" DWS a week ago. So far it's been good. Very quiet and smooth. Turn-in is a bit soft though but I can live with that. Got them from Discount Tire Direct where I've had favorable experiences in the past.
Doing an 8 hour road trip tomorrow so I'll see how they are on the highway. |

My service advisor mentioned that I could continue to ride on them but eventually the vibration caused by the choppy front tires would get worse. At that time, it's time to replace them. Since, there is still a lot of tread left. I will just put up with the vibration until next year when I replace the entire set. I am still trying to figure out how they became choppy. I am not an aggressive drive or do I hit the corners hard. Who knows! |

I didn't realize how harsh and noisy my old Diamaris were until yesterday after spending most of the day on the road. The DWS are much quieter and gave a more comfortable ride. Tram lining on the old Diamaris was very annoying, as is the case with most wide tires as they get worn. The DWS showed no tendency to tram line. The verdict won't be in though until I get more miles on them.
As mentioned in my previous post the turn-in with the DWS is a bit soft compared to the Diamaris. With my wife and 2 kids in the car I didn't get the chance to test the grippiness on the upper end. We managed to miss the scattered showers so I have no comment on the W part of DWS. |
