▀▄ eas | DICE SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kits available for BMW - USB Charge Support

http://www.europeanautosource.com/im...sbcharge01.jpg http://www.europeanautosource.com/im...sbcharge02.jpg

Still the best iPod integration kit on the market for BMW. If you have a BMW and an iPod - you absolutely need this kit.

Connect your iPod to your vehicle's factory entertainment system and hear what your iPod should sound like in your BMW. CD-quality sound and controlled from your BMW's radio or steering wheel buttons without the need for messy adapters or FM transmitters. The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit always keeps your iPod integrated, charged and ready to go. The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit will also display text from your iPod onto your BMWs Radio/Navigation display allowing you to view Artist, Song Title and Album name while both hands are safe on the steering wheel.

The Trunk interface version of the DICE kit allows you to make the necessary connections at the CD Changer cables in the trunk area, and allows 15 feet of cable length to allow placement of your iPod anywhere in the vehicle you like.

The Radio interface version of the DICE kit is a favorite among professional installers. This kit allows a direct connection directly at the radio, eliminating a long cable from the CD changer connectors in the trunk. This also provide a shorter cable route, reducing the possibility of engine noise. The Radio interface kit is also choice for euro models that do not have CD Changer prewiring.

A clean factory looking installation is possible with our sleek iPod docking cable (included), allowing full connectivity for all iPods utilizing a dock connector - including the iPhone and iPod touch.

The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit connects right to the cd changer connectors or radio connector (depending on configuration) already present in your BMW. The DICE SILVERLINE module transfers information between the iPod and radio through an included iPod-specific docking cable, as if it were an original BMW accessory.

To existing owners with a DICE SILVERLINE kit, we will be offering a USB-compatible docking cable in late November. This will be signified by a green color coded connector, the newly-released kits have a blue connector.

Please note: the docking cables blue connector are not backwards compatible with the earlier SILVERLINE kits. Please wait for the correct cables to be released, which will be compatible with existing kits.

Keep posted to our website and this thread for details as they are released.

Tom, how much is the 3G USB cable rechargeable kit for existing Silverline customers?

We have the cables listed separately on the site here:

DICE iPod Dock Connector Cable w/ USB Charging
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=232

These start shipping in 1 week.

Tom G. 01-02-2009 05:00 PM

For those of you that have purchased SILVERLINE kits before 12/2008, we have already started shipping the USB-compliant cables to support current model iPods/iPhones/touch models.

DICE iPod Dock Connector Cable w/ USB Charging
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=232

For those that have purchased Dec 08+, there is no need for for the new cable as we have already been incorporating these into the kits.

These allow pre-11/08 SILVERLINE units with full charging capabilities on the current iPod models, including touch and iPhone.

iredlinemy///m3 01-21-2009 11:46 AM

Does this unit replace the CD changer all together?

Or does it allow for music to be played from either the CD changer, or the IPOD?

The DICE replaces the CD Changer. Once the iPod is integrated - the CD Changer will be long forgotten.

So if i use the trunk version i cant switch songs from my steering wheel, but if i use the radio version i can?

Thanks

Both versions of the kit have the same features, only connectivity is different.

Tom,

Are you offering any kind of exchange + cash options for us Silverline adopters that have been lacking USB charging for our devices?
Say we send you our existing Silverline docking cables and you send a replacement USB charging dock cable and knock a few bucks off the $40 price tag?
Just a thought.

Just a thought.

We worked hard with DICE just to allow a cable upgrade, rather than forcing current users purchase an entire kit.

Like I said, it was just a thought.

I'll take that as a "No"

I was just taken back a bit when I saw the $40 asking price for the new cable.

I didn't think switching the charging pin from Firewire from USB would be that complicated considering there are some engineering DIY folks that had already fashioned their own USB charging solution for the DICE kits.

Those adapters are almost the same cost of the DICE docking cable.

I don't think 25% less can really be considered "almost the same cost"
The Scosche "Passport" is $29.99, and it enables people to use any first generation docking cable to charge newer USB charged devices (ie- iPhone 3G). And it is universal to any docking adapter.
It's arguably a better value because of its versatility, where as the DICE cable is relegated to use with only the DICE module.

http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667

I'm not trying to grill you here, I simply wondered if there was any exchange option for those of us that got stung by Apple's move from Firewire to USB.

TWALK 01-30-2009 03:27 PM

FYI - If anybody is looking to pick up that Scosche Passport firewire>USB adapter, you may find that it is out of stock at the link in my previous post.

You can find them on eBay though, for $25 with free shipping.

Tom G. 01-30-2009 03:35 PM

The Passports work, I would rather not add extra "bulk" to the connector.

TWALK 01-30-2009 03:49 PM

I can definitely appreciate your opinion on that, especially if I were using an integrated dock for my in-car solution.

KingCon 05-28-2009 09:23 AM

Tom,

I can't seem to figure out the right settings to use to have the song title appear under my speedo. I can get the word title to appear, but not the actual song title. Does it have something to do with the little white switches on the DICE unit? I have a DICE unit with Nav. I couldn't find the thread for them so I posted here, sorry.

Also, have you any resolution to the hissing sound and feedback I'm getting through the speakers sometimes?

Thanks.

Thanks.

The switches should all be in the UP positions. Were the battery cables disconnected (very important) prior to installing?

Ok, I put the swiches in the up positions and now the song titles appear. When I disconnec the ipod and plug it back in all I get is SEL:IPOD. Is their a certian way to disconnect/connect?

As far as the battery cables being disconnected, I don't think I did. I don't remember that in the instuctions.

You're in CD5 (Source Selector mode), press CD1 to get back into song browsing mode and for text to appear.

rjg125 06-08-2009 04:48 PM

I have a similar issue. The song title is coming up on my dash but it's not appearing on my navigation unit. I've followed a number of different threads on this. I'm on disc 1 and id just says CDC 1 with no titles. If I switch to track 2 on Disc 6 I lose the text on the dash and all it says it *Dice* on the left side and then TRC 1. No song titles on the nav screen. Any suggestions?

You can have the text appear either on the MID or NAV, but not both at the same time.

rjg125 06-08-2009 10:41 PM

How do I get it to appear on the Nav? Is it a track on Disc 6 because I've never had it appear on the screen.

DISC6/TRACK6 will get text on your NAV screen.

I've got a Silverline kit (not Pro) which I upgraded from the original DICE kit. Now it won't charge with the Iphone 3GS so it looks like I've either got to purchase a new cable or a new Silverline kit.
I notice the Silverline Pro has a new SMART mode which appears to allow browsing on the Iphone and via the radio/steering wheel controls. Currently I can access the IPhone menu and other applications but not the Ipod functionality.
Once the Iphone is plugged in, does it allow control from both at once or do you have to switch between the two?

In smart mode, the iPhone is fully unlocked.

So I don't have to do anything on the iphone to enable it? Will I still have full control from the radio/steering wheel?

Any iPhone can be used - it is not "married" to the system. All control can be through the iPhoner touchscreen or steering wheel controls.

Ok, so it can be done with the iphone OR steering wheel. The instructions you posted for the SMART mode suggest this can't be done at the same time - it is one or the other depending on whether the 'hold' button is selected on the Ipod before plugging into the DICE. The Iphone doesn't have a hold button, so how does its operation differ?

If I buy a new kit, is it just the DICE unit and the cable to the Ipod/Iphone that need replacing ? i.e I can leave the CD changer -> DICE unit cable in-situ ?

In smart mode, if the iPod is left unlocked - full control us avaialble via the touchscreen/clickwheel or steering wheel controls. Lock the iPod and control is available through the steering wheel only.

The CD Changer cannot be retained with the DICE kit. Keep in mind you will still have CD playing capabilities with your in-dash unit.

since my X5 4.6is don't have CD dash unit, I think it is a on-board computer unit, but just a CD changer at the tail ..... so, I just wanna reconfirm with you that the DICE SILVERLINE PRO iPod Integration kit can keep my CD changer, but just additional with the ipod function.

How much it costs totally, and shipping to Hong Kong

The DICE replaces the CD Changer - the two cannot be run together since the X5 is not equipped to recognize 2 CD changers (which the DICE is emulating) at the same time.

Try plugging in the new device first to see if the noise persists. Otherwise, have the trunk harness relocated.

so bad X5 cannot recognize 2 CD changer
Tom, are there any switch to help in this case, i.e. pick the CD changer when I need .....
