Poor Idle
 

I have an E70 X5M with an odd problem. This only will happen when I start the car (First start for the day cold engine) and I let it idle for around 5 minutes before I actually move the car to start my journey. The car is idling fine at this point I start my journey and at some point I reach a stop light, when I stop the car idle is very bad and I have to press the gas pedal so it will not stall. The light changes to green and I continue and it accelerates and cruises along as normal. If I have to stop again it has poor idle. Once I reach my destination go in to buy groceries for example come out start the engine it idles normal and the return home all is normal. If start the car ( First for the day cold engine) and start my journey immediately I have no idle issue and the car will perform normal.

Any ideas?

The is a fairly long list of causes that show the same symptoms so troubleshooting is necessary. I would start with reading for error codes. If there are codes write them down, clear them and see what codes return. Codes aren't always conclusive but they are directional. Reading codes will reduce the troubleshooting, getting to the core issue sooner and hopefully you won't be buying parts that don't fix the problem.

The above is caused by not remembering to power down my dash cam

The above codes and mileage do not coincide with the idle problem. Also I have never had the CEL displayed.

I think I will clear the codes and try to make the poor idle condition appear and then check the codes again.
