///M edition - Teach me about wheels

I've never bought after market wheels for a car.. I've always quite enjoyed my stock wheels.. But as it's already been discussed, X5M wheels are pretty pathetic..

So what do new wheels generally cost? Do I reuse the tires I already have with the car?

I'm really not looking forward to having to buy wheels.. So educate me.. What's it gonna cost.. - And I want to retain the ride feel that BMW intended..

Can I put other BMW wheels on the car? Like the wheels from the 4.8is?

B, look at other BMW wheels and get the dealer to do a swap. Make that part of your deal. The wheels should be the same size and offset as the current E70. I think they should retro the style 87's with a ///M logo and use that as the standard X5///M wheel. The E53 4.6is was ahead of it's time. That should've been the launch of the ///M version.......Phil

whatever you do, stay with OEM for the M instead of replicas. It may cost $1k more in the end - maybe more depending on the style, but you don't want to be messing with heavier replica wheels for this fine-tuned machine, or wheels that may or may not be out of round like the headache I had to deal with.

Cost really depends on the style. Just to give you an idea - BMW wants $5k for 21" style 128s. Something like $3k for the 20" style 214s with rubber (think $2k just for the rims).

Here are some of the options I would consider.
Style 128 OEm is certainly a good option.

I like the 128 OEM...

What was the wheel on the 4.8is again?

100% agree. They must have been around for over 10 years....imagine if BMW was still putting E53 wheels on the E70....they are SO out of date.

Style 168. Few members here have on their E70

Style 87's but centerbore/offsets are off.

I'll admit I have not looked at what's on the market for E70 platform, but if I had to choose....Neez all the way.

NEEZ International - BMW Forged Wheels

It's been awhile since I've price out a set but I would guess 10K and up for a set of Neez wheels. They are extremely well built, strong and 100% forged.
