The top of their RPM band in the X5M is a little bit unfriendly?

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the car or even that it doesn't make tons of power in the upper band. I just mean the car doesn't seem to like to live there at all. Like it prefers to be in the lower RPM band in a higher gear.

Again, it may just be a break in thing or that I'm used to Porsche's that beg to be in the upper RPM band. But I feel like the car is not happiest approaching redline in terms of feel. Not speed.. Just feel. Like a tight pair of shoes.

I don't have an M, but could it be the whole turbo thing? It may not feel like the other N/A M engines at the top of the band.

I think it may be comparing the flat 6's to the V8? It is not a na vs tt thing. The Porsche's simply sing at the higher rpms. I've never felt that with any V8/10/12.

I don't remember my 4.8is feeling like that. But the good news is, it either just needs a real smooth break in OR, it's of no real concern. Cause you don't need to be at the top of 2nd gear when the bottom of 3rd is so awesome, etc.

And just to be clear, under hard, wide open throttle acceleration, it pulls like a champ. I just don't feel as though the engine likes to reside in the upper band. Almost like it wants to get through it and be on to the next gear.

Is it a plateau you are feeling, where the motor starts to get a bit unorganized? I had that feeling with my old E39 M5 at high rpm. One of my favorite cars ever.

I've owned 4 Porsches but never had the privilege to own a turbo. All the NA cars however love the top end of the rev range, and they sound absolutely sensational when it sits above 5000 rpm. In fact it lives for those rev range. I have only driven the X6M for a few hours so I can't give you a definitive answer, but do you think the sound has something to do with it? I found that the higher I rev it, the less interesting it sounds.

I still didn't get my M yet, but from the video's i saw it on the web, I think (M) need bigger DP or exhaust so she can breathing ;)

So who's gonna be the first to get/make a top quality aftermarket sport exhaust for the X5M///???

I would be tempted if someone like Akrapovic (who makes GT2 exhaust for Porsche as well as for Porsche race cars) make a full titanium system. My friend has one on his M3 and I love it. Group buy? :)
