I did not mean to imply your accuracy - just thought you modified something to extend the limit. Both are listed as 155 on the BMWUSA website but I have found inaccurate specifications/information before on the US/North American website. I know that I read somwhere about the top speed being 171 with the "M" Driver's package - but it was a European spec. It sounds like the regular spec is 171, just not listed correctly on the US site - very impressive!

You maybe new to BMW, their speedo has 2-3% inaccuracy, what you saw was an inflated speed based on BMW speedo error.

Most speedos in triple digits are inaccurate. The 2006 GTO (last year they built it) only had 400hp shoved in a HUGE vehicle. Zero-60 on the GTO is 4.7 and top speed is 160mph, so if he truly went to redline in the last gear the GTO would in theory be ahead but in reality at that speed on anything but a track, is silly ;)

I thought it is more like 6-7% error.

I doubt it is that bad, I think up to 5% is acceptable error and they usually have their speedo on the fast side. I tested my M3 and it was 2-3%

Unless you go full bore on a real race track, you aren't getting a real result :) And if BMW is telling you it stops at 155...it does. There would be no sense in BSing that (it aint the 1970s insurance days)
