So who's going to be the first to dyno?

I'd be very curious to see what the ///XMs are actually putting out. I have a tough time believing a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds, given the weight of these vehicle.
I'd only be too happy to learn that BMW is under-rating our engines :D

HIRISC 12-01-2009 10:43 PM

The first time you properly execute the launch control, you'll be closer to believing the physics defying times that C&D posted. :)

4.0 or 4.3, it leaps off the line in impressive fashion

TTBear 12-01-2009 11:03 PM

OH, mannnnnnn, I can so NOT wait... LOL.

Break in, and winter, both suck shwanger, hahaha....

HIRISC 12-01-2009 11:44 PM

I feel you :)

We will have our X5M on the dyno in a couple weeks. As I mentioned in another thread, just waiting to get a few more miles on the car first.

Will post the base numbers here first for all to see.

Thanks

Woooo Hooooooooo!

You, sir, are my hero :2thumbs:

MB PERF 12-02-2009 11:10 AM

That was easy..........

Anyone want to guess what the Hp will be at the wheels?

MB

J.Belknap 12-02-2009 11:31 AM

395-400 AWHP.

edit:

With SAE Correction.

MB PERF 12-02-2009 12:48 PM

Just FYI.........

When we dynoed our 997 911Turbo it came out with 393 Hp and 458 ftlb at the wheels compared to the advertised crank numbers of 480 hp / 505ft lbs.

Predict away............ we will have the numbers in a couple weeks.

TTBear 12-02-2009 02:54 PM

444 to the wheels. That's 20% drive train loss. In an AWD, that's reasonable, isn't it?

***Secretly hoping for about 460-470***

X5rolls 12-02-2009 03:00 PM

That is the number I'd go with if I was to bet. 20% parasitic loss.

Have you guys broken in your M's yet??

Get on those rollers!! :D

MB PERF 02-01-2010 07:08 PM

Ill talk to the guys tomorrow and see when we get on the dyno.

J.Belknap 02-01-2010 07:18 PM

Did some digging around on other forums.

X5M Dyno results.

384AWHP/356AWTQ was in the ballpark of what I expected.

That's it?:dunno:;)

LOL MB Perf....Nice MD1100SE AWD ;) i have the exact same one...once break in is done i'll be throwing it on...I'll be interested to see how restrictive the DME will be allowing the car to dyno. The E46 M3's had an issue because of the front wheel speed sensor!!

Cool . Same car or same Dyno ? or both?

Our X5 will go on the dyno on Thursday. I just put new Toyo snows on the truck, they better not end up all over the back wall or im coming back looking for donations........ the roller on this dyno is very aggressive and hard on softer tire compounds.

MB

da3bous 02-02-2010 10:34 AM

Same Dyno and almost same car....at least the same model and exterior color!!! Yeah you are going to have black marks on your rollers lol

MB PERF 02-02-2010 10:56 AM

Time will tell....... will post results on Thursday / Friday.

MB

da3bous 02-02-2010 11:14 AM

And people don't forget that All Dyno's read differently, especially between manufacturers. A mustang dyno will read lower than a dyno jet however the mustang will always read consistently through all pulls. Also most Mustang dyno's are load bearing dyno's which will give you more "real" results instead of a free turning roller.

MB PERF 02-02-2010 01:30 PM

Jeff

Your right on there. I'm simply going to post numbers, members here can take it for what it's worth.
Now when I build a exhaust system for this truck and tell you it gains 100HP, you have to take that as gospel ........:D

MB

MB PERF 02-04-2010 03:37 PM

THE NUMBERS ARE IN ...................

419 HP
442 FT/LB

I will get more info and graphs later today / tomorrow.

TTBear 02-05-2010 01:49 PM

Wow. That AWD really adds to drivetrain losses, hey???

Thanks for posting up the numbers. Look forward to seeing the graphs.

...ain't that the truth:yikes: I would have liked to see a number closer to 450 at the wheels. What can I say, I m a power slut:p: I hope there'll be a nice simple chip at some stage to boost us up a bit

MB PERF 02-05-2010 02:29 PM

Here is the graph, sorry for the delay.

http://i45.tinypic.com/25661dj.jpg

I was surprised at how good the numbers were actually, better numbers than my 997/911.

Once there are some good reliable parts in the market thesr trucks are going to rock.

MB

TTBear 02-05-2010 05:49 PM

Yikes. Look how flat the torque curve is :) - tapers somewhat, but I'll accept it ;)

This seems to refute BMW's claims of peak torque at 1500rpm...

Regardless, with a l'il ol' ECU tune.... mwahahahahahahahahahahahaaa......

MB PERF 02-05-2010 06:07 PM

Get a tune, exhaust and maybe intake and we are off to the races for just a few bucks.

As much as I hate to burst your bubble but unless you guys dyno the ENGINE, all these figures are pretty much worthless. They are good for direct comparisons (before/after, you need same dyno and same atmospheric conditions though) but nothing more.
Nice stuff for internet forum bragging but nothing more. ;)

I don't see any bragging........ Forum members wanted to see what our cars had for power at the wheels, I strapped the car to our rollers, nothing more.

:iagree: Sounds like someone is suffering from "sour grapes" syndrome.

Hey RTC, hate to burst YOUR bubble, but the engine has ALREADY been dyno-ed by the ///M engineers. Everyone and their grandmother already knows it's at 555 hp and 500 torque. That's not what this thread is about. You do understand about drivetrain losses between the crank and the wheels, don't you?? And I think folks on this forum are plenty savvy about standard deviations going from dyno to dyno and different air pressures and temeratures. Nobody is claiming these are "official" numbers, folks are just trying to get an idea about their baseline whp, since the vehicle manufacturers don't typically tell you that part.
ALSO: If you run it on the same dyno and get 419, 415, and 422 whp on a stock setup...and then you chip it out and it comes back on the same exact dyno with 464, 471, and 466 then it's pretty clear from the averages that your mod has gained you at least 40 in overall hp. Maybe a little more. That's all.
