the dumb question?

So what are you guys getting for gas milage in your X-M? please state which vehicle.
Highway?
City?
Combined and percentages?

And, to answer the expected flames, no it does not matter no this vehicle is not bought for gas savings. But I still want to know. real world mpg is always different. Im just wondering if people are getting better then what I get in my Truck and how it compares to what I got in my 4.8's.
Thx

blktoptrvl 12-05-2009 12:57 PM

Not an X//M But if you want a comparison...

Drove from Washington State to South Carolina.

edit:
i was getting 20 in my 4.8i on hwy trips. hmm.

Rez 12-05-2009 03:19 PM

I only have 750 miles so far. Average 13 mainly city with a little on congested highway. Always in manual mode and usually rev it to 3.5-4k in anything past first gear.

cmyX6go 12-05-2009 05:42 PM

I was going to ask the same question.

I'm not an ///M owner but I'm sucking fuel like crazy with the 50i X6 with performance package. 100 miles after fill up, I'm at 1/2 tank. :yikes:

My OBC is down to 14.3 from the 17.5 I averaged driving home from SC. I should reset the computer to see what I'm really getting, there's no way it's 14.3. I was getting high 13s with the 4.8i E70.

mswaz 12-05-2009 06:15 PM

Ive got 1000 miles and I've seen about 13 mpg in mostly city driving and stop and go. When highway its up in the 17's. Been keeping out of the revs because of breakin for the most part but everyday I step into it a little. My E70 4.8 got about 14 for the same type of driving with 20.5 in freeway driving.

rbaror 12-05-2009 09:10 PM

X5M, half city / half highway, 2700 miles, occasional spirited driving, CO
14.6 MPG via OBC

vitaman 12-05-2009 11:25 PM

More importantly, how many miles do you go between fill ups?
Often I'd rather get a little worse gas mileage but more miles between stops.
Wish the X5M had a 26 gallon tank like the Cayenne.

E53is 12-06-2009 03:45 AM

12.5 - 9mpg here....wish it had a bigger tank i stop often.

and what are you getting in your e53

blktoptrvl 12-06-2009 02:02 PM

Those are harsh numbers. I'd been thinking about going M. But that would cost too much for me. Especially since gas is cheap at this time.

cmyX6go 12-06-2009 07:51 PM

Wanna hear something scary...I reset the OBC this morning, No highway today, just driving around town. I'm showing 9 mpg :yikes:

Rez 12-06-2009 08:11 PM

I am not surprised, that is probably what you end up getting if you drive it around town. The car begs you to step on it once in while so..

HIRISC 12-07-2009 12:32 AM

I drive mine mostly in suburban conditions.. moderately heavy foot.. not a lot of wide open throttle, but I don't puzzy it around either.

2700 miles - 12.5mpg via the in-dash computer.

talon98 12-07-2009 11:30 PM

i'm at 2000 km (1250mi)
i get between 12.3 and 12.8 mpg and i think i have an average range of 430 km or 270 mi.

x5m

vitaman 12-08-2009 09:02 AM

270 miles on a tank does not sound bad at all.
But given you are averaging in the mid 12's......you must be running on vapors when you pull in to the gas station!

buschy 12-08-2009 10:12 AM

even 270 miles to a tank is hard to swallow, why can they not put a bigger tank. its not the mpg that i cant live with its the trips to fill up.
hmm

talon98 12-08-2009 08:29 PM

its like a game to see how far i can take it.. :)

II Kings 9:20 12-08-2009 08:47 PM

I got 20.5 over 400 miles at 75mph from Nashville to Columbus in my 04 3.0 with 43K.

E53is 12-09-2009 02:31 PM

12-18mpg (e53)

buschy 12-27-2009 12:52 PM

I thought the point of the tt v8 was to increase fuel economy?? i guess its worth it to wait and see what the next model does with the transmission and such.

Quicksilver 12-27-2009 12:58 PM

Didn't you know that dumb questions
are not allowed.........:D

motordavid 12-27-2009 01:08 PM

Ugly mpg numbers for the XM...
Cool X, lots of power, but those are exotic car/guzzler
numbers. Jeesh, the worst tank I've ever seen in our
'02 Vette was 24. Weight is the tripping point, I suspect.

Not in my case. I'm at 12.5 mpg with the twin turbo V8. I never got that low on my E70. I'm hoping it will get better over time. I don't quite have 2500 miles on the clock.

buschy 12-27-2009 02:16 PM

yea exactly i averaged with mild driving 18 in my 4.8i

mswaz 12-27-2009 03:25 PM

Considering the 555 HP I dont think the mileage is all that bad. a mile worse per gallon on average than my E70 4.8. It is what it is. You are not buying this thing for mileage your buying it for driving satisfaction. Still better than a Lancruiser or LX570 or even Sequioa. And I'd like to see any of those things do what my M can do. But I know, there are things that those will do my M can't the difference is I don't need to do any of those...

spacegraye70 12-28-2009 06:42 PM

for those who have the means to buy/lease/finance the X5 M, do you really need to worry about MPG? it's "almost" a supercar.

Look at what mileage owners of the E60 M5 were getting with the naturally aspirated V10. Then add 1000 lbs or whatever the weight premium for the X5 is. I think the twin turbo V8 is showing significantly better mileage than that hypothetical number.

At the end of the day, mileage will be very similar to an E70 4.8, until you put your foot in it. Then all bets are off.

I put my foot in both. Right now with 2500 miles on the clock I'm getting 12.3 on the TT V8 in my 50i X6 with performance upgrade vs 13.8 or so on the E70. I do have 90 more horses. I'm not complaining, just saying. Again, no ///M here, but I do have the TT V8

thats not the point, people like to know.
the biggest "worry" is the inconvinence of stoping at the gas station so often.

I also think that people that can afford a car like this, probably do care about the fuel consumption AND the cost of fuel.
Just because you buy a super, expensive, car doesnt mean you want to waste tons of money on gas.

J.Belknap 12-29-2009 09:22 AM

9 mpg in town.

Almost double on the highway.

vitaman 12-29-2009 10:46 AM

Buschy has nailed it. Many will not sacrifice performance for mileage but that does not mean mileage is not important.
Personally I wish they had put a larger tank in to increase miles between fill ups. I think the Cayenne's is between 26 and 27 gal.

Moto One 01-05-2010 11:47 AM

After logging over 9k, milage has been around 17.8 over all avg, with the computer showing 400+ mile range to go at fill up, but have never seen more then 325 before the reserve light barks... (and that was with cruse set at 75 mph and no stops, then again that was right at 4+ hours on the road too). It would then take somewhere around 16 gallons, that works out to a real milage of 20.3 mpg. Now if you tip into the power on the on ramp to get ahead of a car/truck to merge, it's surprising how that one time event will effect over all milage... Use the power, pay the fuel bill.

vitaman 01-05-2010 12:00 PM

So.... the Reserve Light comes on with 6.5 gallons left in the tank? That seems early to me. Did I misread something?

The Big Easy 01-06-2010 05:57 AM

4.8 E70, 5.4km/L

Cheers,

B-Line 01-07-2010 04:41 PM

I get about 2 miles to the gallon... But I drive hard :)

spmd11 03-07-2011 10:54 PM

MotoOne pretty much nailed it. I have 8k miles on my 5.0. It does surprisingly well on the highway because of the 8 gears. I can get in the low 20's if I reset the computer on the highway.. like around 21mpg or 22. It doesn't matter how fast you go because at 80mph you are only pulling right at 2k rpm.

I have 16.9 overall average since new. That is at an average speed of 35mph. So not bad at all.

However, if you tip into the throttle, you will burn gas, BIG TIME!

tonytsai0429 07-04-2015 06:34 AM

old thread, I was venture out to seek what is the current F16's MPG

like to give some feedback

2005 E53 3.0 - getting 19~20 combine, 23 MPG when driving around 70 HWY

2013 E70 X5d - 23 combine MPG, moderate driving, 28~9 HWY

according to OBC

if anyone has some real world driving stats on 2015 X6M, would like to find out before I pull the trigger.

tonytsai0429 01-13-2016 01:48 AM

Nevermind, I pull the trigger on January 1st. I'm getting about 15.7 mpg. Hoping to get some data later to update

'13 X6 M got 12.3 on my daily trek mixed hwy/city driving. On road trips the best I got was 17.
Too soon for stats on the '16 M but I imagine it will be the same.

Good luck.
