X5M vs. 4.8is questions
All the M owners
Hey guys just wondering couple of things I had a 2005 4.8is and now i have 08 4.8i I find that the ride of my 4.8is was much better than my 08 model, in general going over the bumps it was quiter and let's say it was better put together, maybe it's my 215's with runflats. so question is. How does the ride of M compair to 4.8is and E70 in general? Is it smoother? rougher? Going over the bumps, any ruttles and such? Also, the exhaust note on my 4.8is was amazing, but my 08 4.8i does not sound that impressive at all, i know this has been discussed quit a lot but, you guys the new owners of X5M, are you happy with the exhaust note? Does it sound better than 4.8is? Thanks in advance, and i will be eventually getting the M sooner or later, and just wanna have a general idea as to how the m compairs to my previous 4.8is, because i know my E70 does not impress me at all at the moment. |
I feel that the X5M rides a bit harsher particularly in sport mode. The runflats don't help either. No rattles or noises as such though. Although I like the sound of the M, IMO nothing sounds as good as 4.8is

I think my E70 is WAY more refined in every way compared to my E53. I had 20's on the E53 and the ride was firm and solid. It took some effort to turn and keep the vehicle straight especially on warped roads. The E70 has even bigger 21" wheels and requires no effort at all. I have the dynamic handling pkg which is more of a sporty ride but still smooth and very responsive. The active steering makes all the difference too. The exhaust note is what sold me on the new 4.8! When I took it for a test drive, I had to have it!
As for the X5M, it is even better than the new 4.8 in every way. You have to drive it to feel it. Much more responsive steering and handling. Completely feels like a different car! Smooth, powerful and solid! As for your 4.8, I see you have it lowered AND you have the 21" bigger wheels with runflats...and you're wondering why it's not smooth over bumps?? |
The active drive and dynamic handling package in conjunction with the smaller 20" really make a vast difference in the M. Looking back on the 4.8, the drive was hard with the 21" 215s and now it seems much smoother.

I bought it lowered from U.S. and i already went back to factory set up, but i find my current ride, still noisy when going over bumps, i don't know maybe it's just me.
The exhaust note of my 4.8is used to be unbelievable, actually it even sounded meaner and better than my friends 09 cayenne turbo s I hear form different people the M does not sound as good as 4.8is, just like you guys sayd, and i think thats a no no Quote:

I wonder if the M will go thru tires as fast as my 4.8is does. :(

I understand the economics, profits and everything that goes with it, but it is kind of anoying, when you drop 100K on a car and next year they come out with a better one, because they could make the better one in a first try, but oh wait they have to sell the volume, so let's be annoying and make little changes so people go and sell their car way below what they payed for and spend another 20K at least to get juuuuust slightly better version of it.
Fuck that man, i'am tired of it. People should not feel like they have worked all their lifes extremely hard to make BMW happy. Now that is ridicilous period. Quote:
