First detail

Much like a first impression, you only get to do an initial detail once, so I spent a few hours washing and polishing the car today; I'll put a wax/sealer on tomorrow.

Just a few issues that I saw on closer inspection that I couldn't see when I took delivery. First, the clear coat must be as soft as butter and/or whoever detailed it prior to delivery used sandpaper, as I've got more clear coat scratches than I've ever had on any car I've ever owned, especially on the plastic body panels. Second, the exterior glass had more contamination than anything I've ever seen -- I washed them, cleaned with auto glass cleaner twice, then clayed them, and after two more glass cleanings, they started to get a little better. I noticed it all the way home (lots of salt/chemical spray all the way back to Massachusetts), as the wipers simply wouldn't get parts of the windshield clean, almost like there was some sort of glaze on parts of the glass. Last, I have these white grease spots on the bottom inside corners of my doors, some of which made it to the exterior part of the paint. Not sure why there would be grease points there, but a little P21S Cleaner took it off the exterior paint.

I decided against taking out the scratches for now, as I fully expect to take some hits this winter; I'll just wait until spring to remove the more severe scratching. As it is, 1Z Polish Wax with Flex/blue pad takes out about 50% of the scratching, so I know the surface is ultra soft right now -- I'm assuming it will harden quite a bit in a few months (I hope). Hopefully I finish before the Arctic chill reasserts itself and my fingers become frost-bitten!

I noticed that glue on the lower parts of the door, and somebody panels as well. It didn't go with the wash, I had to use some organic stuff to take it off. I think it is the glue that holds insulated doors.

In New England, at least. No sooner had I completed the last bits of cleanup and prepared to take a few beauty shots, the skies darkened and rain began to fall. Now they're saying we're getting a few inches of snow. Poor car...born in SC only to be transported to the land that eats car finishes. :saad:

As it is, here are a few crappy pics from inside my garage with one door closed and low-level mixed lighting, a recipe for photographic disaster that all the post-processing in the world can't fix. Still, it's stunning to my eye!
