first ding on my X5m

So my X5m lost its virginity and got its rear bumper raped by a large truck on Monday :(. My car was parked and a guy backed into it with a ball hitch and almost broke a hole through the bumper...nothing else was touched, but the bumper has to be replaced. Now I have to go through the hassle of getting it all sorted... Anyone have a suggestion for a body shop in CO? I called the dealership and they gave me a suggestion, but wanted to know if people had any personal suggestions.

Did you see it happen, or was the guy nice enough to leave a note? It sucks but what can you do? I hate parking in public places. Good luck with the repair.

Actually the guy who hit it came into the store and asked whose BMW it was...I did not see it, but at least the guy was decent about it. I was not mad at him or anything, its an accident....that's what insurance is for.

It's nice to see that some people out there do the right thing.

Just make sure whatever body shop you take it to has been certified by BMW. We have one here in ATL that I have been to a couple of times and their work has been great.

I feel for you...six weeks ago some kid hit me at a traffic light, gave me all his info, asked me not to call police, said he'd pay me for a new cover..in a bad spot right now but promised to take care of it...still calls me saying "next week"

I was a nice guy..been in a bad place before and wanted to trust this clean cut "kid" (24yrs old)...now I'm a nice guy who needs to spend $600 for a new bumper cover...

Hope it works out better for you, but I feel your pain.

Always park far away from others if you baby your car. In other words, I hate the city.

Some guy rubbed the bumper on my E53 with his Land Cruiser while I was on the other side of the car. That little scratch wound up costing $1000. :yikes:

Damn, that sucks. I'd never have done that. Just like everything else in the world...if you can't afford it, don't do it. In his case he couldn't afford to drive and/or keep a reasonable insurance rates, which sounds like his history is what prompted him to begging for your understanding. Sorry man.

Just another reason why I'd never go there again. I still fail to see why people love that place so much.

I've been looking to move away from the area because we are taxed to death here in the surrounding burbs but there's really nothing like it anywhere else. I looked into NoVA and there's no beaches except a few _hours_ away. DC isn't comparable to NYC... and the traffic is probably worse. Name another place that rivals the area in terms of things to do. Beaches in proximity, city life with endless things to do, great food... what more could you need?

Great 2500 sq ft houses w/ 3 car garages, motorhome parking, all on a 1/4 acre for under $250,000 for starters. The biggest cities I've lived in were Seattle and DC...downtowns are fun and all, but I'm a burbs kinda guy. I've lived in the heart of both downtown areas, and the stress of incredibly poor parking garages and/or bad parralel parkers kept me up worrying about my vehicles. Don't get me started on traffic  Boise is definately not my last stop, but I could never live in NYC itself...and I get car sick, so no taxis for me :D

Newport beach for one and there are others....

How about the Jersey Shore? Looks like a lot happening there...

Seriously, it pisses me off to see even the smallest scratch in my car, and on my recent trip to NYC I saw SO many cars with those detachable bumper protectors! I would have to have a real crappy car for city use, and keep the better cars for gettin' outta town.

m5james 01-08-2010 06:11 PM

I did like the East coast when I lived there, but damn that humidty! Going on motorcycles rides at 2am...perfect. Going on motorcycle rides at 2pm...screw that!

So its being fixed now should have it back tomorrow or the day after.... Just an FYI, I went ahead and just did an oil change at 4500 mi ...I know they said you don't need it till the first scheduled maintenance (at 12K mi) but it can't hurt and I'm planning on keeping this car for a while. Cost $95 at the dealer.
