Hard as hell to find, as BMW seemingly tries to hide it from us in North America, despite the fact that it's actually referenced in the owner's manual. :dunno:

Anyway, it's an aluminum bar that slots into the rear cargo area rails on the floor. It adjusts forward/backward in the rails, and it has tension straps from the ends that attach to the center bars for smaller items.

I had a few cases of really special red wines that got nicely blended driving back from the wine shop a month ago...this should help prevent that. Anyway, I just think this is an extremely clever way to make your cargo area far more usable/safe.

In the german pricelist you can order it at 127,- €.
Don't know why this isn't offered in the US.:dunno:

If you give the part number, your dealer might have it. I know my dealer in LA had almost all the trunk pieces, including the one you mentioned.

Sorry -- I should have been more clear. It's offered in the US (at a significant premium to European pricing), and I actually ordered/received the part. That said, here's the link on BMW USA's website. Not exactly very helpful!

When I went to try and order the part the first time, it comes up only within the context of the entire floor rail system, so it isn't immediately obvious that it can be ordered a la carte. It was only when I asked for the exact PN that they figured out what I wanted.

It is, however, an extremely well-designed and thoughtful addition to the cargo area if you're often hauling smaller objects in back.

Don't know if you already have the floor rail system.
If not, be aware you MUST have it to fit the spacer at the bottom and move it to a suitable position.

Yes, I do -- it's standard on US X5M's.

I can also confirm that it's strong enough to hold multiple cases of wine. :D

The adaptive fixing system is great but we need to remove the plastic trunk liner to use it - so if something does spill (like your wine!) it'll go right into your cargo carpet is the plastic liner is not there.
