Cancel 2010 and wait for 2011?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this board and have to say you have a great community here! So I ordered my 2010 on Christmas Eve, not realizing the 2011's would be released so soon. I already have a VIN # and delivery is scheduled at the PC for the second week in February. Of course I'm very excited to take delivery, BUT I don't absolutely NEED the car right now. Therefore, I'm very torn on what to do - I know about the new head & tail lights, and have read rumors about various bits of new interior technology, which honestly is my biggest concern. I'm leasing so I'm not worried about the lower values 2010's will have in the long run. I don't even know for sure if I can cancel at this point but I would imagine if I made a big enough fuss I could. What would you guys do in my situation? I appreciate any responses. |
Well, I just ordered yesterday. I asked the saleman what changes there are going to be and he said none for the x5m. So, unless he's jerkin my turkey, which wouldnt be surprising, I m gonna leave my order. Good thread cause now Im a little unsure too.
In fact, what he said was that the x5 will get minor fascia changes as well as rear bumper changes. This wouldnt affect us though because the x5m has it's own styling in those spots...Also, a diesel and a smaller engine will be introduced (or something to that extent). What I have been told here and found online is that the X5s will get minor headlight change with LED tails as well as new harddrive based i drive system which will be alot better than current. I certainly dont wanna take delivery and have a new one out right away. Not my idea of ordering a "new" car... Whaddaya say? Shall we make a fuss and wait..!? |
Hi there,
My salesman told me that the same changes happening to the non-M versions would apply to the M's, which I guess would make sense. However, he could not confirm for me exactly what these were. |
See my edited post again above. I find it sad that they cant tell us the truth about updates... Im not settling for a refresh no matter how minor so soon after paying alot of $$.
|
The harddrive Idrive is already on the 2010 version. I could imagine the only change for M's would be tail lights and possibly the rumored 8 speed transmission. Whihc could be a hit or miss..
Maybe I am wrong but on my 2010 I already have the white halo front lights and newer headlight design. For the front and rear facia they are already different than a normal E70 so I don't see a need to change them as they are changing on the E70 to allow additional airflow for the TT engines. |

not sure they look pretty white and they are different from my 2008 E70
|
I say, you guys should not be the hostages of a new design, wheather we like it or not, they will keep changing minor things on these vehicles in short intervals.
I say go ahead and get your M's and enjoy it, life is too short, best of luck to all of you! |
X5m-rs4 fan,
I'm hoping the 2011 x5m's have the rear entertainment monitors in the rear of the driver and passenger seat like the new 7 series. When did you hear the 2011 would be released? |
Im thinking updated model production begins in March-April 2010? Is this right?
|
I would not base my decision on a bunch of speculations. I doubt there will be any change in a year that would be worthy of waiting
|
From what I've read, yes...though my dealer was trying to tell me that cars wouldn't be delivered until May or June - but I have a feeling he is just saying that to keep me from switching. He also told me "there would be no lease support on 2011's, and pricing would be higher" - again, trying to get me to just take the 2010 I'm sure...
|
I was told that the facelift WILL NOT apply to the X5M. My dealer has always been accurate in these regards.

Might have to agree with LeMansX5. Check out my new thread on the Angel eyes. |

This is turning out to be one of the hardest decisions in my life, what to do what to do ;):bustingup:dunno:. I agree with life being too short, though.... Plus, I wanna be in the car not waiting for it. |
I'am sure if you wait and get the updated version, by the time you take a first drive in it, there will be news that something else is changing on the X

You could die tomorrow! Lol, at least that's what I tell myself before I make a big purchase...works every time :)
all kidding aside, 555hp and 500tq are what make the x5 m. 2010 no different than 2011. Now or later makes no difference. I prefer now though :) Tom |
wasn't there some talk of an 8 speed tranny? closer knit ratios garner more mechanical advantage....plus top gear is even more of an overdive for better hiway fuel economy.
|
What s the verdict rs4-x5m_fan? Any decision? After all my research, I m not sure if it is worth waiting just for headlight and taillight and navi harddrive upgrades. Im thinking that the headlamps can easily be upgraded regardless, as well as the tail LEDs i bet. The harddrive navi sounds cool but Im not even sure what that is anyways...
Also, according to my salesman, a 2011 car would be delivered by August-ish which is too far away for me, even though Id never admit that to him ;) |
I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to take it. Where did you read about a change to the NAV?

Another way to look at it.....If you take delivery in Feb versus May, you may miss out on some minor changes but may be more ready and closer to trading cars in 2012 or 2013 when something major hits the market.
|
Guys, relax.
Here are the changes for the X5 M: Two new options (not sure if they are available in the US): Sideview Camera Speed Info (also using a camera) Engine and 6-speed automatic transmission stay the SAME, NO CHANGES !!! Rear DVD Entertainment System stays the SAME, NO CHANGES !!! Only changes: minor cosmetic change to the front (hardly visible) and the well known rear light graphics from the new 5/7 series. Shape stays the SAME. Again: NO MAJOR CHANGES. This is CONFIRMED, the March 2010 GERMAN X5 M pricelist is already official. Hope this helps... ;) |
Awesome - THANK YOU!
|
I see, so no navi harddrive thing? I wonder if the rear light graphic could be retrofitted. I love the look of those on the 7.
|
I'm sure it can - I'm asking my dealer to agree to give it to me at cost if I decide I want it.

Here are the photos in comparison (new/old). This is NO photoshop job, I took the photos from the old and new X5 M brochure. ;) |

Again wasnt the hardrive navigation effective in 2010. Mine has a hard drive navigation. Plus ability to save content to a hard drive for music playback. Good news on the transmission!!!. So changes are probably new headlights and new tailights. |

The harddrive stuff is just what Ive been reading online...As far as the comparo pics you posted, there isnt much difference there at all! In fact, I may even prefer the current tail lights. But, thanks for posting that. As for it being a photoshop, it gives a good enough idea of how the '11 s will look. Not worth waiting. Thanks for the info!

In the past that is how BMW has always done their brochures rather than reshooting everything. For example in 2008 and 2009 on the E70 they added the new model designation on the side of the car and they used the same brochure and added in the model designation for 2009. They just have really good photoshop guys... |

Still doesn't make a difference. THIS is IT. ;) |
