Well at least I'm sure it's not the last...

Service Action: Install ICM Anti-Rattle Damper

SIB 611409

That explains a lot -- I've had an irritating rattle back there pretty much since delivery. Could very well be the cause.

Hmm, I've got some weird rattles but my car was built in October, so I guess it doesn't apply. :dunno:

I had an SOS malfuntion the other day. No radio, bluetooth, iPod or Nav. Three hour drive singing to myself. Then is just started working again. Dealer blamed me for tapping my V1 into the overhead console. Until they realized that the guys who put it in ran the wire down to the fuse box. Goes back tomorrow to replace rear camera and look more into SOS.

Maybe remove the V1 for the service visit?

Once they realized that it was not tapped into the overhead console, they left it alone. Just funny that their first jump was to blame me.

Got it. In all seriousness it's not funny. They are calling for more and more vigilance in monitoring for aftermarket stuff (even issued SIB's on it) and flagging the cars VIN number, and at that point you're screwed. IMHO people who buy a $100,000 X5 M (or any BMW really) and start modifying it up the wazoo should set aside ten dollars for out of pocket (meaning not covered under warranty) repair costs for every dollar they spent on the mods.

In the US, the manufacture has to prove that a failure occurred because of a modification before they can deny a warranty claim. Otherwise, my engine blows up and BMW comes back to me and says, "Well, because of your hardwired V1 we are not going to pay for the new engine."
The onus is on them to prove it.
Another problem. Modifying the car then removing the mod when there is an issue may be fraud. I am not an attorney and I am not playing one on TV.

Now that I have completly hijacked this thread. Sorry
