215 Wheels
 

Hi All,

I am about to order an '11 X5 M. The stock wheels are 20" and look a little small to me...was thinking of getting the 215s..they are 21" correct?

What would be the best way to get them on the cheap since I am assuming you can not incorporate the cost of them into a lease...correct?

I wouldn't mind getting Reps if they are as good quality as OEM...don't want to sacrifice safety for a couple grand!

The only one of your questions I know the answer to is, yes they are 21" :)

The "answer"/opin I have is the 21s will have a nearly identical rolling circumference to the 20s,
and thus be very close to the same overall "circle" within your wheel well; thus, the tires will be wider
and lower profile but that set may not necessarily "look bigger" in the wheel well or, on the car, especially to
those viewers not tuned in to BMW wheel styles. :D

My other opins are that 215s are a Titz looking wheel, but pricey,
but may not be the best application for rolling around the streets
of NYC.

I believe you should be able to incorporate the cost of 215's into a lease. The question is do you want to? They are probably around 6-7k from the dealer. I incorporated a dealer installed hitch into my lease, cost me 15 bucks a month or something. I do not see why they wouldn't let you.

I have the 215. Love the look. Motordavid is correct; rolling circumference is about the same. I think they give the illusion of a little bigger wheel. I like the look and the width. I use spacers and will be lowering it a touch.

My 2 cents for incorporating into the lease, don’t. Check with the dealer. Many times accessories are added with no residual value. Meaning that if you add $5,000 wheels, your monthly payment will be $5,000 divided by the number of months of your lease. You will end up paying for the wheel with interest then turning it in at the end of the lease. Pay for them yourself and you can sell them when you turn the car in. Freebie for next person who gets car.

Pricey? Depends on your definition. Dealer will sell you one for about $850 just wheel (rear). Then you have to buy the tire ($500) and the TPSM ($100). A HRE P40 21” will set you back $1,200 each just wheel. Not sure how many 21” wheels you are going to find out there for a lot lower than $850 each. Tires are expensive. I believe you only have one choice for this rim. But I haven't had to look around yet.

And they are heavy as hell. 85lbs for rear with tire.

Here is a crappy cell phone picture from when I picked it up at the dealer. I use the oem 20" with snow tires so I haven't had the 21" on since I brought it home. Cannot wait to see it 1.5" lower with the spacers.

+1, maybe the coolest wheels there are, for an X, imo!

I actually like the X6 M wheels a lot, this is why I ordered them for my X5 M. ;)

I do think that the M wheels are ligher than the style oem 215's. Any replica wheel will weigh a lot more. If unsprung weight matters to you then try and get the x6m wheels or keep the factory x5m wheels. BUT do not put replica wheels on the brand new x5m. They will slow you down unless the wheels are lighter than the ones you are taking off, which I highly doubt. It depends on what your prefer.

Warmed up a touch and I put my summer wheels on. Here is a couple of pics with the 215. Ride is a little more harsh. Not too bad. I think they look great. Even got a couple of people to comment on them.
