OK, I am embarrassed. I am going to be doing a lot of apologizing and eating of crow.
The service person for BMW called me this afternoon. It appears from what he is telling me that the guys who installed my laser interceptor did not reinstall a grommet completely. This allowed water to leak from the sunroof opening into some important computer parts. The reason we didn't think of this first is that BMW blamed the LI install for the rear camera issues. They ended up having to apologize to me because it was an internal wiring harness and not related to the LI install. Seems it all comes around. He very gracious on the phone and stated that we can work it out. My apologies to BMW and the dealership. I got all worked up for nothing. Not usually my style. M |
998M is your car a lease or do you own it?
|
Own. Although starting to think I should have leased it.
|
Wow, I'd expect better service as well. Sorry to hear about it.

I know this doesn't help much but I own a X5 M for four months now, I put 4200 km on it, mostly driving it very hard and a lot at the top speed of 275 kph (speedo shows 290), even during great heat (up to 38°C) over here in Germany.
The truck hasn't seen the dealership once since I picked it up. It runs and runs and runs. I just filled up around 0.75 l oil at 4000 km. Fuel consumption is 21 l / 100 km on average, so you have a guess how hard this truck is driven all the time. Bottom line is: so far, the X5 M has been flawless. Sorry to hear about problems. |

But guys let me play the Devils Advocate here, dont you think we seem to be having all these little demons in our cars because we are able to bring them problems out to the forum and which makes X5 seem to be the most demon possessed SUV or SAV whatever!? Do we really know what goes on with Cayennes, Range Rovers and any other SUVs?!! Maybe they also come with their own lemons, oranges even the entire orchard laws!:dunno: |

Too much metric stuff for me so I can't resist converting it to dollars!
21 liters per 100 km = 5.55 gallons per 62 miles 62 divided by 5.55 = 11 miles per gallon (approx) 4200 km = 2600 miles divided by 11 miles per gallon 236 gallons used @ $2.75 in the US = $650 to drive the 2600 miles I'll assume Benzine is still around $7 per gallon in Germany at todays exchange rate: $1652 to drive 2600 miles in Germany. Ouch |
