Miles per gallon?
I've had my '09 Cayenne turbo s for a couple years now and I'm getting antsy. With a number of other M cars in the stable and being disgusted with how Porsche charges, an X5M is looking pretty good.
But, I'm reading about real life reports of 9 miles per gallon. My Cayenne's averaging 14 to 16. It isn't about the fuel cost, just inconvenience and the principle. Is that really what you guys are getting? Thanks for the info! |
I regularly get about 15 mpg.
I do a fair amount of 80mph highway driving. Without that, 13 would not surprise me. It is a very heavy vehicle. Wish they had made a bigger gas tank. I'd rather get 12 mpg but get 350 miles between stops versus 15 mpg but have to stop 100 miles earlier. I never mind the fill ups however. The X5M is a pleasure to drive and super practical. |
14mpg with a nice mix of city and highway. I feel, I don't get to open it up enough though.

90% of time i think im pretending i am going around the Nürburgring so i avg.12.5 mpg
|
Over 12,000 i've averaged 13.4 miles with about 60% city 40% highway but a lot of stop and go highway. On pure highway miles at about 75 mph I can get 20 mpg. It really is not much worse than my 2008 4.8 and about the same as my Cayenne GTS. Well worth the cost now but gas is cheap....

Do you keep in in M and Sport mode or vary it? My understanding is that Normal mode gives the best mileage, M mode reduces it slightly and Sport mode reduces it a good chunk. |
I look more at smiles per gallon. I get 4 smiles per gallon and around 14 miles per gallon.
|
I mainly keep it in normal with spurts of M mode with sport shifting. Cloverleaf freeway on ramps are the best.
|
My average is 11 but I really wouldn't care if I got less, the driving experience is absolutely worth it.

go for the M, you wont regret it.. I heard the Turbo S has a lot of problems. My co-worker with one said "if you look at it long enough, you'll see something break" Still a sweet car though  |

I had a 2008 Cayenne GTS, not for very long with no problems though and this past weekend I attended the Porsche drive event where we got to track various new Porsche models at Seatttle international raceway. One of the vehicles was a 2011 Cayanne Turbo. I can say that the new Cayenne Turbo has nothing on the M. I may be biased but the car just did not seem all theat great. Suspension is soft and off the line did not seem to pull all that well. Now the 911 carerra 4S and the Boxter Speedster was a different story all together. That Boxster Speedster is one fun car.

I have 19k miles and avg. 15mpg. 1/2 interstate; 1/2 stop and go. Wish the tank held more fuel.

13K miles - mostly urban - couple of short trips - relatively aggressive driver - 13.8 mpg lifetime.
|
1800miles on it so far and am getting no better than 10.5mpg mixed. its a thirsty one for sure. have yet to get more than 230 per tank before fill up. Hope it gets better as it breaks in more.

5.7 L / km, slightly better than my previous 4.8L X5.
Cheers, |
