highflow filter for x5m?

Is anyone developing or any high flow filters available for the x5m?

Is the assumption that BMW decided to specify and supply low-flow filters when they designed the vehicle?

yes as most oem's provide high filteration paper filters w/ low air flow

Disagree. Do you have any data, other than from companies such as K&N?

Here is an independent test, just for reference. Several factory and aftermarket filters were checked (on a Mazda at WOT) and the pressure differential between the stock and aftermarket was in the order of 0.02 psi. And to get that gain, they sacrificed filtering capability, as shown in the test results.

Air Filter Flow Testing for Napa Gold, Amsoil two stage foam, Jackson Racing foam, Baldwin, Mazda and K&N

But you are running in the order of 15 psi of boost. How much difference is 0.02 psi going to make?

Here is another test of air filter restriction, GM Duramax diesel. The difference in restriction was around 0.06 psi in this test.

If you want to trade off to get the most airflow with less filtration, just remove the filter. Problem solved. Not advisable, but that's your highest flow. Thing is, the air filter restriction of a functioning factory filter isn't a factor in hp.

Well kn is now making a filter and I just ordered it for mine and my buddies x5m we'll see if gas mpg improves on either cars or any difference in throttle response. Both cars have about 2000 miles purchased same day with 2 different commutes one is 60 mile why while mine is 30m of stop and go. Having had kn filters on over 6 cars over the past 15 years I'm hoping for similar mpg improvements of1-2mpg or 20-40 more miles per tank.

Nova, it just makes your car run leaner hence the gas mileage increase. It is not a good increase in mpg.

Your just removing a small amount of restriction, less restriction = slightly more hp and a slightly (dirtier) leaner engine. It works because every new car has a safe and rich tune.
