why cant you put it in ///M mode?

You can. If you put it in M mode and and transmission in Sport. When you step on brake and floor it, LC will come on. If you do all of that w/o putting it into M mode it will be just as fast without going into LC. This way you can do it without BMW knowing... I think.

1- Wouldn't that be much slower because the car is not in ///M mode

2- is anyone sure that BMW can not see that it has been used if the car is not put into ///M mode

I got my time at the track within 0.2 seconds of Launch Control, with the vehicle in M mode and manual shifting. Took some practice but LC = 12.60 (very cold day), Manual = 12.80

I believe you can go into M mode without launch control engaging but MDM needs to be selected in the M mode menu in order for launch control to be engaged. I think MDM deactivates stability control.

the LC flag comes on if you do it like 998m said, just like using LC. its damn close either way

LC works without the "M" button being pressed?!? really? I cannot find it in the manual but I was pretty sure it had to be in sport with MDM on. Anyone?

Simply by virtue of you using it, no.

However, if you break something by abusing the vehicle, whether you are using launch control or not, don't expect BMW to cover that abuse under warranty. Warranty is for defects, not misuse.
