Anyone use some K&N drop in filters?
33-2449 - K&N Replacement Filters, Replacement Air Filter
I know there are alot of fears of oil mist on the sensor. I dropped a pair into my E63 and it was fine. I removed the charcoal filters and every once in awhile the check engine will come on. But it just goes out after a little driving. is it worth it for the X5 m? When I had my E46 M3, all the boards claimed the factory paper filter flowed just as much as any K&N, so I never changed it. But the X5 takes two filters. That has to flow more with a high flow filter. and on a turbo vehicle, filters usually make a difference. |
Another way of looking at it is that since there are two filters, the absolute requirement on each one is halved, ie restriction is only half as important.
Unless you have the flow data for the OE filter, the K&N data by itself is pretty meaningless. You would need back to back flow tests on a test bench to find any difference, and that difference could be positive or negative. Short answer is that it is very unlikely to matter, and with turbochargers it will matter even less so. Only reason to buy them is for a conversation topic IMO. |
is there charcoal filters on the x5m ??
i took em out of my m5 and it made a huuuge diff , if the x5m has em i'll rip them the fuk out and test it NEIL |
