Sport mode shift points
Does anyone else find their car shifts from 1-2 too quickly in Sport even with M Mode on? I find that if I'm in S1 and go around a corner at an intersection and punch it, it will quickly shift to S2 even if it's only at 3500 rpm...kind of spoils my fun. I would put it in manual but the 1-2 upshift in manual is tough to hit right and usually ends up being a bit clumsy. Is there any other way to force it to hold S1 while taking a turn?
As an aside, I did a baseline VBox run stock. Keep in mind it's new...just past break-in, and I didn't use launch control, just power brake at 2500 rpm. Runs done mid-day in S. Florida in 90 degree heat and humidity (dew point of 73 gives me a density altitude of 2400+ ft despite actually being at around 0 ft altitude). 0-60 was 4.5 with 1 ft roll-out (more exact 4.46) 0-100 10.9 1/4 mile 12.93 @ 108.7 Not bad baseline runs, and it was very consistent. I know BMW engines aren't fully broken-in and loosened up until at least the 5000 mile point, so I'm sure there will be lots of improvement in time. The point of doing a run now was to see if there is any measurable difference with the regular tires that I will be putting on tomorrow. |

I'm going to stick with the Toyo Proxes ST...I had good experience with them on my previous 4.8. If they do well I'll stick with them...if not I'll look at other options including the Michelin Lattitude Diamaris.

If you want on road performance why not go with the vredestein ultrac sessantas? you live in south florida, so all season tires are not necessary

I'm not really familiar with the Vredesteins, but I'll check them out.
The main reason I'm going with the Toyos is that I have a full set ready to go. I had good experience with them before, but granted that was with much less power in the 4.8. If they can't handle this power, I'll switch again. |
funny , i feel like mine winds out to much 1-2
beat on it a lil , maybe it'll learn what your looking for ! |

When you say "regular tires" I assume you mean NON Runflat?? I would live to see the improvement in performance with the much light rotating mass Can you baseline it with the LC before you swap tires? |
As a follow-up on this, I confirmed that the 1-2 shift point in sport mode is 3000 rpm unless you are at WOT, whereas all of the other shifts occur at 4000 rpm under same circumstances. The only way to prevent short shifting from first is to be at wide open throttle...even moderate throttle will result in an early upshift. I wonder if this can be reprogrammed because it's really annoying. When I come around a slow corner in 1st and want to punch it, it will shift to 2nd before I get a chance to get on the gas.

I am more annoyed by the abrupt and unnecessary down shifts in sport mode
