X5M Tune

hey guys i havent posted in a while. currently have about 10,000 miles on the car now. no problems at all. not even the rockchips that everyone gets. anyway. . .im about to pull a triger on a tune. most likely a powerchip tune. anyone have experiences with this tune or any other tunes. also talked to a local x5m owner who also has a tune. he said to be careful with using LC. he told me his rear axle broke after launching the car with a tune (fixed at his own expense). is this true?

LC and axle breaks with a stock tune = warranty repair
LC and axle breaks with aftermarket tune = expensive repair at your expense, unless the tune is the Dinan one which comes with (theoretically) full warranty coverage.

That is the first broken axle I've heard about, though. They must be pretty stout to handle the stock power.

Broken half shaft also mentioned here:

Seems to be becoming more common on tuned 335 models as well as they push the envelope ever further.

While I agree with the formula that an aftermarket tune makes it an owner expense, you may get some argument from dealers that abuse caused the failure, even with no tune. Abuse always voids warranty, and it is a subjective determination.

You have some choices:

ESS
Active Autowerkes
Eurocharged
Dinan
Powerchip

I personally like Active Autowerks and EuroCharged, but any of the listed above are excellent companies.

Its unfortunate that none of them allow you to flash yourself.

I just bought a 135i with a dinan flash and every time the dealer wipes out your tune you have to bring it in for a reflash and they charge for labor.

Read the "it has begun" post.

I review the install and performance

Only thing untested is the 100 octane

EuroCharged also allows you to flash yourself. Jerry is great to work with.

There really isn't much to review. All of these tunes are very similiar most give you a increase of 86 Rear Wheel HP and 117 Ft lbs of Peak torque

I didn't see an option to get your own tuner..based on the description it
sounded like it was like dinan, you had to bring in for flashing.

its just tough..doesn't seem to be that many people out there with these products. I wonder if they will do a group buy ? :D

Love it. Power comes in at much lower RPM. Flash in theory is easy. The directions suck. I had an issue but IND and ESS's customer service is 2nd to none. All good within an hour.

I tried. No deal. Roman said that with regular tunes, they can work something out with group buys. But with the X5m x6m tunes, it comes with the handheld, so the price is the price. But at 2k, it is one of the lowest priced and it seems to perform pretty dammed good.
