Exhaust Popping on Deceleration
I have 700 miles on my X5M, and although I am doing my best to abide by the break-in recommendations, I have noticed when the M button is pressed, I get a popping/burbling sound from the stock exhaust on deceleration. The sound is particularly prevalent when decelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I simply overreacting?

When I am in M mode. I get a deep pop on the 1-2 shift and the 2-3. I never heard it loud on deceleration. Unless maybe you are at a high RPM and just get off the gas. But it is nothing like the pop on the 1-2/2-3 upshifts |
If you let off the gas suddenly, the exhaust does give a pop sounds. It's normal. I think it will only do it in sport mode too.

Yes, that's simply a bit of unburnt gas igniting in the cats. Stop over-thinking things, it's a great sound.

Appreciate the feedback everyone.

this is actually an 'enhancement' on the e90/e89's with the performance package
Developed in-house by BMW's engineering department, ..... and add an exhaust "burble" during engine overrun. |
