Um, yea, I don't think I will be buying x5m as well. This is some shit. I guess my line of BMWs will have to end. Time to research other high perf SAVs.

In regards to the coolant smell, I had the same thing when I drove the car on January 8th with the master tech and shop foreman. They replaced both the engine and cabin microfilters (64-11-9-248-294 & 64-31-9-194-098). This took care of it for me. But this would be pointless of course if you still have a coolant leak of some sort ongoing.

They should be able to pinpoint the coolant leak if they see the remnants of it I would think, problem is they don't drive them properly or long enough to reproduce the issue. In my case, only happened under hot high pressure, which they would never get to.

Sounds like your having a time of it as well with all the other issues...

I am about to buy a just out of warranty X5M don't want warrantee because I am going to mod it and in Canada that voids your warranty any way. However this is scaring me :( don't get me wrong if I found one under warranty for a good price I would jump on it but they are about $10,000 more with lower mileage and warranty.

Can't direct you there... what I can tell you is it was not the vehicle as much as the handling of the situation coupled with incompetence. They had the car for 69 days for what essentially came down to a hot high pressure coolant leak and a botched coolant replacement. They replaced a bunch of parts on the vehicle as part of "goodwill" but I ended up with a settlement from them which was more than they originally offered, I took it and traded in the vehicle.

I always liked the vehicle, but I traded it in due to the handling of this situation with BMW and personally I would not drive one out of warranty simply because of the cost of replacement parts/labor. Sounds to me that labor or cost may not be an issue to you as much so choose as you do.

Most of the time you get what you pay for, but not always...

Hello, I just bought a 2012 with 42k miles and its lived in the shop since I bought in November. I called BMW yesterday to start a case as I am not happy with the vehicle at all. My warranty expires due to time May and I need to decide on keeping the vehicle or buying an extended but don't feel the car is worth spending money on at this point. Anything new with your case? I am currently driving a Toyota Corolla as a loaner and basically feel more comfortable driving it as I have never had the car on the lift at start up or a check engine light!!!

Any advise will help.

Do you have BMW financial as your bank if you have that, basically what you to do is call your institution and have them prorate you your monthly payment as long as the car is been sitting in the shop for the amount of time that you had the loaner

No, its not with BMW and nearly paid off. I want out of it and into another Cayenne at this point. I have an 04 X5 very low miles and it has an oil pan gasket leaking and over 1200 to fix something that simple. I think my run with the brand is over unfortunately.

Unless there's a special oil pan gasket for the M, $1200 sounds nuts! An indy replaced the oil pan gasket on my 4.4i for about $300, including oil.

So, check with an independent shop before throwing your hands up...

Thanks, I did I had my personal mechanic that fixes my motorhome and boats and he said he wouldnt touch it. CV shafts go through the oil pan on the 3.0 engine, and the engine has to be lifted for the pan removal. Crazy design!
