Anyone got an extended warranty for their X5/6M?
I have been looking for a 2011 or 2012 X5 50i in Alpine White with AD but had a hard time finding the right car, but recently came across a good deal on a 2011 X5M and currently considering it.
However I am concerned about the warranty of the car which expires in about two years. Made the mistake of not buying an extended warranty for the E53, which didn't need much repairs but the cost still adds up. Plus the high output turbo charged V8 does make me worry about the engine and transmission... Mainly looking for a extended/aftermarket warranty to cover the large items like the twin turbo V8, transmission, adaptive drive, etc. Done some research and some of the more reputable ones like Ford ESP doesn't cover M cars while they do cover X5 50i and most other BMW vehicles. Does anyone have a recommendation on extended/aftermarket warranty for the X5M? I know the BMW Gold Warranty is an option but was trying to see if there is another one with better coverage or better price (was hoping to find one that with good coverage and preferably backed by a large manufacture) and btw if anyone of you bought BMW Gold/Platinum warranty, how much did you pay for it? Thanks :D |
I got an extended 6yr/100K miles warranty with Platinum coverage. Don't remember how much it cost.
I like having a peace of mind of having an expensive car covered fully, so i don't have a heart ache everytime i have a broken windshield or bent rim. |

I agree with your mindset- after owning an E53 and having to pay out of pocket for all of the repairs, its amazing being able to drop my car off and leave my wallet at home when I go to pick it up. I opted for the maitenance plan too, which should take care of itself after the the routine services and a set of new brakes.. |

I believe it was just over 3k.

I believe you can't get BMW warranty unless you're an original owner or purchase CPO (comes with extended warranty).
I just bought 2011 X5M with extended warranty. I paid slightly over 3k for 5 year/100k miles. Not many aftermarket warranty companies will sell you warranty for M cars (AMG are the same way). But I found that if you find a car you like from CarMax, you can get their 5 year/100k warranty (yes- you can take it to BMW dealership for all your service) for about 2k (most inexpensive deal and we know CarMax is not gonna go out of business anytime soon). So make sure to check out X5Ms on CarMax as well. |
My dealer is promoting a Toyota warranty and claims it better than BMW and cheaper. I am currently trying to get BMW to buy my piece of crap X5M back before warranty expires, nothing but trouble.

I want to buy an extended warranty for the 2011 we're taking delivery of later this week; I financed through PenFed but their Route 66 warranty won't cover ANY X series truck, so I'm looking for options that also aren't ridiculously expensive.
For reference, the Route 66 warranty would have been less than $2500, if it applied. Any suggestions? Someone directed me towards Fidelity, but it seems their warranty can only be bought through dealers, which just means needless markup. Thanks. |
I wish I had gotten the extended warranty. I traded my 2010 X5M w 61,000 miles on it, after I replaced the transmission and 2 wks later had 2 fuel injectors fail. Got offered $29,000 at the four dealerships I shopped in Knoxville, TN. Sad to say, I got a Lexus -nowhere near the get up and go but an Unlimited engine and powertrain warranty
