Who's taken the x5m to the drag strip?

Took mine last night and I'm not to happy. Ran a 13.60 @ 96.58 mph. Car is tuned and has k&n filters. :dunno::dunno: I've emailed the company that supplied the tune to find out if something is wrong. Stock they're supposed to go 12.50's @ 117mph.

Does anyone have stock times/tuned times?

Hansel22 07-20-2013 11:26 AM

Oh it was in M mode, traction control off and left in launch mode. So it's not me..

Sylvan Lake V35 07-21-2013 01:42 AM

Ouch, I haven't yet but I do plan to Go see what it runs stock then again after KŁN exhaust and a tune. I know our track runs fairly slow so I was worried about being 12.9-13.2 stock but 13.6 with a tune :yikes:

J.Belknap 07-21-2013 07:47 AM

Wait until fall.

It was 84 out. Humidity was 61% DA was 2948 but you think that would make it run 1.5 seconds slower and kill the MPH like that? Ran good 1&2 60' was 1.92 which isn't that bad. On the high end just fell on its face. I was racing a wrx had him to the 1/8 then he passed me like I was standing still. That's why I think the tune maybe no good. Shouldn't the x5m pull hard on the high end too?

Yeah I know. I'll know from the software company tomm I hope. Worst case I'm gonna go back to stock and hit the track again. I should have done that to get a baseline anyways.

JCL 07-21-2013 04:31 PM

Hmmm. A tuner sold a tune that claimed more hp and it didn't actually produce more hp? And K&N filters didn't improve the breathing and result in more hp? Next thing you know, somebody will be wrong on the internet.

Suggest you name the tuner to protect other potential purchasers.

Hansel22 07-21-2013 04:43 PM

After I see what the response is for the ill post thier info. Who knows maybe it something stupid. That's what I'm hoping for. It's going back to stock tomm and I'll be back at the track wed night so ill know for sure

Yes, it should... bummer about the tune. Maybe a stock flash and a trip back to the drag strip is in order.

Edit: curious, what was the 60' time?

1.9 and that's what I'm planning on doing.

J.Belknap 07-23-2013 09:34 AM

With Dinan, you're paying for reliability and follow-on support.

Hansel22 07-23-2013 09:37 AM

I know, I've had dinan on my m3's before. It's a ok product but for they price you'd like a bit more power.

Toneaero 07-25-2013 05:13 PM

Subscribed.

I don't have a drag strip near me but I do have a GPS based Gtech (kinda like a vbox) that also measures 1/4 times. I don't know of any super flat stretches to try this out at.

isugoo 07-25-2013 05:20 PM

I'm subscribing as well.
Please tell us the tune brand so we know what not to buy for now.

Hansel22 07-25-2013 05:38 PM

They're working it out know. It maybe a stupid error, I'll know Monday what's going out for now it's back to stock.

330i ZHP 07-28-2013 08:48 PM

mine ran a 12.4 stock

MRV99 08-15-2013 09:43 PM

Did you run at Route 66 Speedway or another track? I can only assume that your tune has some issues. I really wish I could remember where I read the thread on another forum comparing some dyno runs with different tuners. Dinan had some issues with retarding the timing during the run and actually producing less power than stock. The resolution was to reflash to fix the problem.

Hansel22 08-15-2013 09:50 PM

We go to Great Lakes, I had the burger jb4 which wasn't working. After working with terry at burger he decided to pull the plug on the jb4 for the x5m/x6m. I've been loping at dinan but I can't justify spending 3500 for 50 crank HP. I had thier tune on my m3 and it was crap. Hell most of Dinan's stuff sucks.

I was really hoping the jb4 would work on my x5m cause if I had an issues with my truck it took 15 min to remove. I've now been looking at VAC motorsports tune, that's like the jb4. They say that it makes power on the dyno and it can be removed before dealer visits.

I always go to laurel BMW and I don't know how'd the feel about a tune on this as far as the warranty goes.

On a car this expensive I would only use a Dinan tune. Also, the car will probably deliver what Dinan states seeing what they did with the N63 in the 550i.

330i ZHP 08-19-2013 10:15 PM

Why would I pay more for less with Dinan? ESS definitely woke mine up

I have renntech ecu tune on my vehicle and it def made my vehicle a beast.. I have also heard many great things about the ESS tune.. I think active autowerke has a tune for the X5m/x6ms.. you should look into those..

I'm torn between ESS & Dinan right now. I have read a lot about the renntech & AA too. I'm more concerned about the warranty tho. That's why I'm kind of leaning twards dinan.

Boosteeddc 09-02-2013 06:38 PM

So I guess my 12.7 @108mph doesn't sound as bad as urs :(

Hansel22 09-02-2013 06:44 PM

It was broken. The waste gate Solenoids were shot. Now it's goes 12.60 @ 111 stock.

Going back to the track this week with a tune & exhaust now.

Having a decent relationship with a service manager at any BMW dealer. A tune and downpipe should be perfectly fine from any company

I just did all the dinan stuff. Less of a hassle.

jamze132 09-26-2013 10:32 AM

I'm running the BPM tune on my X6M. It's a beast now.

1naztyx5 09-26-2013 04:03 PM

After 1 min marker there're a couple of pulls BPM/ESS

Nice vid Nazty, I like the M vs 5.0 I wondered how close it would be. I would like to see a stock M vs a tuned 5.0

Thanks, yeah should be interesting, like this 5.0 has the BPM tune and down pipes. hasn't been dyno yet but the owner believes it should be around stock X5M terretory.

Sylvan Lake V35 09-29-2013 02:41 AM

Did the M have down pipes as well or just a tune?

And extensive R&D, does not void warranty and Dinan has warranty that matches BMW. I have found Dinan to under promise and over deliver. I have never had a single problem with any of my purchases.

mrmomo313 07-20-2014 05:44 PM

Hansel! Whats up man. First your s4s running slow now the M!! At least your Porsche is beasting some 10 second times from what you posted on AZ. I ran 12.31 last year at Milan with dinan tune and exhaust and that was my first time to a strip, ever. It has more to give if I can launch it better. Not sure I agree with your dinan sentiment haha

Edit: didn't see original posting was last year lol

Now if only you'd label your videos correctly and say X5M, (M being critical) instead of "M3 vs X5 vs x5", then they'd pop up on more searches

Have you since tried again with the JB4? I've got an ESS tune coming in the mail now, but I'm reading some M5 threads and they're getting equal if not more power using JB4/meth/stock tune vs aftermarket tunes.
