Speedometer Fast by 4mph
 

I was wondering if anyone else has checked this but I noticed that my speedometer is fast by about 4-5mph vs using GPS on my phone. I had a rental car and it was spot on. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten any speeding tickets, lol but it's also prematurely adding excess miles. Would the dealer correct this under warranty?

Std issue on many BMWs, for more than a decade...
Dlr can't/won't be able to correct it.

the odometer calculates correct mileage while the speedometer is more optimistic - the information is programmed in form of quantity of "clicks" of the wheel speed sensors as calculated by the ABS module.

i have exact number of clicks for my 4.8iS somewhere, but for the sake of argument, the odo may have 1000 clicks programmed for a mile and the speedo has 920... those numbers can be programmed but i do not know the implications of such programming

I feel like mine adds on mileage really fast too....but I just drive it alot more!

ya ive got 63000 miles on my 2012! mine is fast by 3mph, according to gps and those speed trap things on the side of the road

I had my speedo over estimation corrected by coding.

I personally like this, because knowing this and sometimes forgetting about it it gives me acoushin of security when rolling past a cop

+3 mph, all the bimmers' I've owned.
