OEM Bridgestone Dueler H/P Information...

I am receiving conflicting information from the dealer and tirerack... The dealer tells me the oem bridgestone dueler h/p is an all season tire and is fine for winter driving... everywhere else i read it states otherwise and lists it as a summer tire...

My concern is being that I am in the mountains every two weeks in the winter time and there accumulation in addition to single digit temps to high teens I would prefer a dedicated winter or at a minimum an all-season.

Can anyone here clarify?

That size, listed on TR, shows it as a summer tire...
there are a few sizes of B Dueler HP listed as 'all season' which means spring, summer, fall, imo.

If I was driving in 'the mtns' in winter, I would rec'd dedicated winter snow tires.

Agreed, which is what I typically have done in the past and wouldn't dare drive in summer tires however I am working with the dealer on the price of 2012 X5M and need to factor in an additional $1800 for tires at a minimum or $3k if I do all new wheels and tires together on top of spending $70k+ on the X5M to begin with.

I hear you...Xs are pricey, the M is even more so.
Maybe give up a bit of looks/vanity and cop some steel wheels, less wide tires, and feel good in the snow and ice for a few months?

I would do the style 214 wheels with dedicated winter but I would like a bit more off the car to offset the overall purchase price of the vehicle with all the ancillary items and accessories.

I am fairly certain that these tires are dedicated summer but would like confirmation from BMW USA first since the dealer is telling me otherwise but when hasn't the dealer ever told you something just to seal the deal?

Dueler H/P Sport Tire | Bridgestone Tires

LOVE these tires, btw. (Edit: the NON-runflat) But, they won't see snow. Good luck with the M purchase.

I suspect TR, the Bridgstone site, et al, are on the ball in terms of description of tires, in that size...

Even the 'all weather' versions in other/smaller sizes won't be much help in real snow/winter conditions, esp on ascending and descending grades, imo.

The dlr is being the dlr...and, big azz summer street tires are difficult and pricey to replace with real winter tires.

thanks guys... i will use the information as some leverage to get a few bucks off the transaction but doubt the dealer will budge much since they just put on all four new ones however at this point any discount will do since a winter set will be just shy of costly.

I got caught in an early snow storm with the OEM bridgestones, it was sketchy and down right scary they are not for snow at all.

I would try to get the dealer to swap the tires for a set of Conti DWS they are great all season tire but no run flats. They should do this straight across as run flats are more expensive. 20" winters are not cheap I bought replica 214 in 9.5 and 10.5" so I can run 275/40 winters all around on my wife's diesel. Next year for my M I will get 275/315 20" on the OEM wheels.
Or ask to get a set of OEM 19" style 298 they are the winter wheels that are made for the ///M but they are terribly ugly in my opinion.

i purchased pirelli scorpion winter tires and put them on my 48i w/ m-sport... the 20" were not cheap but not as bad as i thought it would be... it was insane when i put 21" winter tires on the Q7 S-Line.
