2012 BMW X1: New Photos and Details Released
http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...mwx1.4.500.jpg http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...mwx1.2.500.jpg http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...mwx1.3.500.jpg MALLORCA, Spain — BMW has released more details on its upcoming 2012 X1 sport activity wagon, including just how the X1 will fit in among the German automaker's range of vehicles. At a special media event in Mallorca, Spain, a fleet of the vehicles were made available for pictures, drives and speculation. The lineup starts with the xDrive20d with 177 horsepower and a 0-60-mph time of 8.4 seconds. It continues with the more powerful xDrive23d turbodiesel that makes 204 hp, 295 pound-feet of torque and a 7.3-second 0-60-mph time. North America will get only the third model, the xDrive28i, that's equipped with the same 3.0-liter inline-6 as the 328i xDrive sport wagon. The normally aspirated engine lays down 231 hp and 199 lb-ft and will sprint to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The X1's main competitor is the VW Tiguan crossover. The X1 sits 0.7 inch higher than the Tiguan, but offers 8.4 cubic feet less cargo space than the VW's 56 cubes. A set of 17-inch wheels is standard, and the exterior is BMW sporty with an aggressive-looking front fascia. BMW went for a unique look inside that doesn't overlap too much in design with the 1 or 3 Series. There's a new in-dash navigation system, the console buttons have a clean, simple arrangement and the air vents are revamped for a more angular look. Europeans will be able to get an X1 this fall, but the new BMW won't make its way to North America until mid-2011, around the same time as the second-generation X3, which is expected to debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. Rumor has it that a rear-wheel-drive model is in the works, too. Inside Line says: Although this is likely pretty close to what the X1 will look like for U.S. buyers, expect some slight changes by the time 2011 rolls around. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=149547#6 |

Ugh. No l.e.d. lights here. Same hood design mistake as the 7 series.
|
Looks promising and a little less goofy than the gold coloured concept from a while back.

Looks great! Much better in white than the poobrown.

Can you find some better pics of the wheels on the coppertone poobrown one? They look interesting...

I just heard that color is called Marrakesh.

Nice!
And it got paddle shifters too!!!! |

It doesn't look that bad from other angles though. I like the white one best. |
Contrary to original plans that X1 will not come to US....X1's US arrival is confirmed for US in 2011. The press release...
Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey – July 1, 2009 … It was confirmed today that the BMW X1 is planned to debut in the United States in calendar year 2011. The X1 has been conceived with the flexibility to offer traditional rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations, as well as a wide variety of gasoline and diesel powertrain choices. In light of rapidly evolving US market demands, fuel prices, and regulatory standards, elements of the X1’s US launch plan, including engine and drivetrain configurations, will be forthcoming closer to the time of launch. The BMW X1 will debut in Europe this fall with a choice of four engines - one gasoline and three diesels - and will be available in rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations. The X1 will set new benchmarks in the premium compact segment for efficiency, comfort, utility, and of course driving dynamics. Achieving up to 5.2 L/100km (45.2 miles per US gallon) on the European test cycle, the BMW Advanced Diesel-powered X1 sDrive18d will provide remarkable fuel efficiency while still achieving a top speed of 200km/h (124mph). Each drivetrain choice for the X1 will showcase the latest results of BMW’s EfficientDynamics engineering strategy, which is focused to reduce emissions and consumption while enhancing the performance expected of any BMW. |
^^That is good news LeMans.
I have come back to this thread a few times to look at the white one a little closer. I think it is already growing on me (the front may take some more time though). Any guess at the gas engines offered here? N/A six 230hp+/-? TT six about 300hp+/-? TT four 300hp+/-? Xoutpost is going to be growing over the next few years. ;) |
2011...time flies, but that may be too long to wait, for us.
In the minority here, but I do like the front and, the back. The side view is less than thrilling; sort of a half-azzed "touring" look, imo. :( If I was really excited I would be curious as to the width of the usable horizontal space in back deck, as in can the sumbitch hold golf bags horizontal? But, may need to replace the CEO's CR-V before sometime in '11, and I suspect the price will be in the upper atmosphere, compared to real world competition. And, no diesel for US: genius thinking there in TeutonVille. Thanks for the pics LM...I liked the prototype sketches better and thought BMW might actually do something leading edge for a change. What a concept... |

Very nice car! Wish the ground clearance is same with X3 and X5/X6, at least 200mm or more. 225mm will be better.

They've got a full microsite working on BMW Deutschland : Home. Pricing is also available in Germany. I've attached that along with the Equipment list. Note that the US only gets the petrol version.
Despite it's disappointing looks, there is ONE version of the X1 that I would be interested in: sDrive20d Graphite Blue Metallic Black Elektra Cloth on Sport seats and Aluminium trim Standard Style 317 17" wheels Options: Panoramic moonroof Anthracite headliner Sport seats, sport steering wheel Adaptive bi-xenons + High beam assistant Smoker's Package 6CD Changer Adjustable front armrest 177bhp 6-speed manual gearbox 5,2l/100km, Euro-5 Emissions band And since that's never going to make it over the pond, I can forget about the X1 just like I forget the X6. |
a very nice car ... i think i have made my choice for the wife's next car!
|
It looks great, I like the white one the most...can't wait to see it on action..
|
What the hell are the little square things in the inner headlamps (DRL/Flash to Pass lights)?
I think that by the time I graduate, my college campus will be overrun with them. |
...i dont know...

The X1 along with all the 2010 models are up on the BMW.de website. I built my sDrive20d already, but honestly it's not a pretty-looking car.

I'm pretty sure it won't be much better in person. It's kind of like the X6: I knew it was ugly when it came out in pictures, then when I saw it on the road, I recoiled in horror. (When I was taking pictures for the dealership, I neglected the 2 X6s. No need to scare customers away.) |
the X1 looks pretty good to me, it looks real sporty and i think it could have good potential...if they throw in a nice potent engine in there it could be a little sick thing on the road, better than the Q5 i think.

Ok, ok... The one problem I saw in that video is the scene of them driving on the beach at the waters edge. I know myself and some other competent drivers that could do that, but wouldn't in a BMW... but what pops into my mind is the video of the E70 sunken down to the frame with water crashing into it! I can see someone in sue happy California getting BMW into court saying it was supposed to do that according to the ad.
|
that beach part just reminds me of the poor x5 that got stuck.
|
haha i think everybody is relating that beach scene to that guy stuck with all his friends pushing. that x1 looks better then the m series x's. i really like the front bumper.
|
I have been browsing the North America's BMW sites but don't see any listing of the X1. Is the X1 not available in the US or Canada?

I apologize if this has been already asked: What is the price range (in US$) for this X1? This is very interesting and that brown is yuck!!!
|
that car looks awfull, whoever desighned that should be FIRED!!!!!!!
|
I personally do not like the brown, but I hear many people really do! I assume they think after they drive through a mud puddle, the car won't look dirty?
There is no price in the USA, the X1 is not for sale here yet. |
I like it. Might be time to trade in the 2003 X5 now that the kids are older and get one of these X1's.

Nice lines and coloring but needs much bigger headlights.
|
You know there are surgeons for that...
|
Yeah but it sort of seems crazy to buy a brand new car and have the first mod be headlights.

Update: The X1 will be assembled also in China at Shenyang.
|
Order = canceled.

Funny. Models assembled in China will be sold only in China, the production from Leipzig will be sold everywhere else.

Thats actually good news for the rest of the world. |

Can you imagine driving a BMW and finding those fucking annoying tiny "Made in China" stickers everywhere you look. Quote:
|
The question is: Why don't we all react this way to non-automotive 'made in china' crap?
If Wal-Mart went back to supporting American made products, it would put China out of business and the rest of the world back to work. |
Viper,
I don't disagree, but Walmart is the 800 lb gorilla, retail-wise. But then, with China potentially feeling a pinch, who would buy our Treasuries that prop up this fiscal house of cards, we call the US economy, national debt and "banking" system? Back at the X1 ranch, I wish it were coming sooner and was not so pricey, as the CEO is due for a replacement for her pos CR-V in the next month(s) or so... |
It's almost next to impossible. Just check the tag on your underwear.
Quote:
|
My proposal would be to have side by side products with a Chinese flag and an American flag. Let's say the American product was $20 more, which would I chose? Obvious
I think the X1 assembled in China will have the same quality because a German company is overseeing the production. Still given a choice at the dealership between an X1 assembled in Germany and one assembled in China? At the same price or $5,000 cheaper? Dunno |
Not me. I wouldn't touch a chinese BMW with a 10 foot pole. I'd switch to a different model or manufacturer. On principle alone. I don't care if the entire workforce is German, the factory shouldn't be in communist china.
