I Own Two Identical 2010 E83's - Transmission Software Update?
Hey All!!
Glad to be here. I recently purchased a 2010 E83 with 55,000KM for my wife. I enjoyed driving it so much, that I ditched my VW and picked up a second 2010 E83 with 60,000KM for myself. both in white, both with the executive package. love them. however, my E83 drives differently then my wife's. the transmission and power response feels different. and reading online, there seems to be much talk about this. My first question is, in the 2010 model, is there a software update i am missing? Have the issues with the 2007 been addressed and fixed in the 2010 already? Why does my E83 feel different then my wife's? Regards, Alex  |

Also! I get the Triad of lights on my dash during start-up [airbag, 4x4, (!)]
but as soon as i put it in gear and roll away, they all go off, and my dash is normal again. it does this every time now, and it disappears every time?!? this all has to do with MY E83, not my wife's. Is my suspicion of software issue, or transmission issue related to these lights during startup? attached is a pic  |
also, also....
how can i find out if there was a certain update or anouncment for my models that may have not been addressed with the previous owner? I am second owner of both vehicles. |
I'd say your best plan of attack is to get BMW "pa soft" it's a coding program. It's very cheap and you can see what your 4x4 light code is and other codes from say the dme "engine computer" . For the software update I'm not sure I know you can "reset" your adaptations. Look up the procedure I believe there is info on this forum about it

Nice rides btw. I love the 2010 mirrors

As for the trans adaptation, try disconnecting your battery, both + & -, then touch the two cables together to drain all residual charge in the car system. Wait about 15-20 mins & reconnect, positive first, then neg. This should clear your transmission memory. Turn the keep to position #2 (not start) for approx 30 sec. This allows the valvetronics electric motor to reset, then start the engine. This to will cause the 4x4 light to come on at start up, but will go out when the wheels start to turn as you drive. It's just wanting to get feed back from the wheel. Once it does, the 4x4 light should go off. This procedure erases the auto transmission adaptive memory & star relearning to your driving habits. On another note, it may be advisable to "drain & refill" the transfer case with BMW's special oil & have it "reset" with someone that has the correct computer. This allows the transfer case to fine the "max-min" travel on the clutches with the new fluid. Keep us posted on if the "transmission adaptive reset" helps. |
