2004-2006 vs 2007 AUTO Trans Reliability

Hi guys,

I currently own a 2006 X5 (E53) with 6-sp MT.

I am looking at some X3 with auto trans, and have been reading 2004-2006 vs 2007+ transmission (different GM trans). So, I need an update from forum members re reliability of the AT:
- A local seller said his X3 trans was replaced at 110K with a junk yard AT with only 46K on it.
- From reading forums, it seems that the X3 AT is not bad, there are some with failures but most are probably doing fine.

Can I get some updates from X3 owners (mileage, any issues with the AT)?

Thanks in advance!!!

We have (2) '07 X3 3.0is autos; My daughters car has 144k & wife's has 76k. Bot are doing fine.
I bought daughters (white one) last Dec with 132k & was a CPO car. Bought the wife's '07 (Silver one) last July with 73k & it was a CPO car. Both cars where dealer serviced via CPO (Certified cars)
On my daughters, I changed trans filter & fluid (about 6 qts) Dexron VI. The old fluid looked very good.
On wife's car, I just drained & filled (about 4-5 qts).
Both are doing fine. BTW, I would reset the adaptive shifting by disconnecting battery for 30+ mins & I would also remove '+' cable & drain by touching the '-' & '+' together. CAUTION: only with battery disconnected. I also reset the throttle valve via the gas pedal procedure. I feel that they both, trans & throttle, need to be reset at the same time. My opinion only. hope this helps.

why not stick with the MT ? it will last forever.

my friend had a 2008 AT. he had major AT repairs at 60k. again at 90k the AT went out and they traded it in for a Lexus. something to do with the actuator I believe>?

I've had three X3s (all auto), one E53 X5 (same auto trans as the X3) and my brother has an E46 with the same auto transmission. All of these cars are between 120K - 200K with not a single transmission issue ever.
