When replacing my transfer case actuator plastic gear, should I lube it?
The two YouTube videos I have watched about replacing this gear don't mention anything about greasing the new gear,...they just show it going in dry. Any personal experiences or advice on this?
I already have my new gear installed, but have not yet re-assembled the actuator assembly. will do that in the morning, then install it in my X3 Brian in Austin |
Found a third video, got my answer
Found another video on youtube from Odometer Gears and he covers cleaning and lubing.
Thanks anyway. Brian |
Curious, Brian: on MB G500's only about 1/4 of the circumference of the actuator gear is used. Since the part is NLA, we would just remove it, rotate 180 degrees to the good teeth, and re-install. Free and it didn't take long.
Is that possible on the X3? |

PS, See you have a K1200S. Sold mine about a year ago. Decided I preferred my K1200RS for the kind of riding I do,......and frankly,.....that S was just too fast too soon. I just did 1800 miles in 2 days plus a break day in the middle with about 100 miles of riding. The RS did it comfortably, Electronic cruise control and excellent hard system cases,....and I like the extra weight and riding position,....very stable. |
