2004 E83 Panoramic sunroof is inop and front sunshade liner is drooping,...how to fix

I bought a 2004 X3 about a year ago. It came with an inoperative sunroof,....which was not a big deal for me,.....that said,....the front sunshade material on panoramic sunroof is sagging or drooping and I want to fix it.

It looks like I will have to pull the entire headliner to get the sunshade out to have it reupholstered.

Can anyone comment? Anyone done this?

Hi Brian,

I removed both sunshades on my X5 panoramic roof to be recovered as they both had come unglued. Step 1 was to remove the rear glass. There are 2 torx on each side, it is possible to undo them with the sunshades fully retracted by kneeling on the back seat. They are slightly easier if you can get you glass in the vent position. The glass lifts up and out the top. Once that is done you can remove the sunshades one at a time from above, by accurately sliding the sunshades to expose the 4 (from memory) screws on each. Mark everything or take photos as you go. I had both mine recovered in a matching, better than original, fabric by a local upholsterer. Installation is the reverse. Make note of the physical position of the glass before removal, scribe the metal or use a pen as there is some adjustment here. If the rear glass binds the front glass too much, they won't retract from the vent position. Go through the complete sunroof initialisation procedure once you are all done, to set end points etc.
Good luck!

My Sunroof and Sunshade assembly was all disabled by the previous owner's mechanic,.....so a bit unsure how to proceed.....may have to reach out to his mechanic.
