Oil

For you 6MT owners out there. Anyone changed their tranny or gear oil? BMW says theirs is good for the lifetime of the car which I highly doubt.

With the Manual Trans, suggested
fluids are Redline D4-ATF,
Redline MTL, Amsoil and Royal Purple Synchromax (and obviously BMW MTF):

How much do I need? I'm getting Redline MTL for the transmission lub and Redline 75W90 for the gear oil.

Dunno about quantity, but I would either go with BMW MTF or Amsoil. btw, how many thousand miles do you have on your X? You must barely have any with a 2004.

Where can I find the drain and fill hole for the 1) gear oil and 2) manual tranny oil? Do I just drain and fill? Do I have to keep the engine running? Move through the gears?

:nervous: after reading these 2 questions maybe you need to take a step back and seek some experienced help

PLEASE DO NOT have your X3 running while you are working under it!!

you need to be very careful choosing the proper fluids for your X3 if you use the wrong type/weight fluid you will PROBABLY KILL your tran in a few K miles

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted

PS: my first attempt at maintance/upgrade almost ended in disaster. 1 broken bolt 1 stripped thread 1 leak. thank goodnees for friends, father and friends father it took all 3 of them to get me back on the raod
