Accessing LCM module
Hey I’m mostly on here for the E53 X5 forum, but I also have an E83 X3.
Using BMW scanner 1.4 I was easily able to access the LCM module and modify how my lights function on my X5. But when I connected the same software to my X3, I can’t access the LCM module. Any suggestions? |
What year is your E83? BMW Scanner 1.4.0 says it's suppose to do E83, but I wonder if you need PA Soft v2.

2010

Nice. Okay...so on your E83 does the DME at least connect on the PA Soft--just nothing else, like the LCM?
|
Yeah it connects and everything, I can access other modules, just says it can’t access LCM. When I get a chance I’ll hook it up again and get exactly what it says.

Interesting. Do you know if pins 7&8 are connected together on your scanner? I've had to open mine up before and solder these two pins to get PA Soft to function correctly.
Are there any fault codes with other modules not seeing the LCM on the bus? This should report on K-bus. |
hey rocket! final got a chance to hook it up again.
looking at my scanner tool, all the pins look to be single on their own. i have heard that soldering pins give more access, because even when hooked up to my X5, doesn't seem to give me access to everything. this is something I have little confidence in doing a the moment and maybe will have to look into further and do sometime. on my X3, this is what it says when accessing LCM: I enter "Coding Data" then, "Light Coding" then it says "Not available for this coding index, yet!" so thats my issue here. |
Okay. So what it sounds like is that you need to solder pins 7&8 together on the scanner.
Take off the 4 screws and solder together those pins. I can access every module on my E83 EXCEPT the DME. I'm not sure if PA Soft had developed the N5X DME access yet at that time. |

I can't offer any solutions, but I get the same error, so it's not unique to your vehicle or module. |
I would suggest looking at your adapter. On my adapter, I can easily access nearly everything...my e83 is an LCI.
