Glad to hear you are ok.
as far as totaling it they will repair it all the way up to 70% of the cars current bluebook retail value. They will only total it if it is over 70%.

The car is about 7 months old and has approx 12,000 miles on it. At what point do they total it? Every body panel has sustained major damage - the drivers front and passenger rear wheels are bent into the car and all 4 wheels and 3 tires are damaged. My rear view mirror was knocked off and the NAVI screen was cracked.

here are my questions - when I leased the car I put down $3000 to cap down my payments. What happens to that cash if the car is totaled? According to Liberty Mutual (my ins co), if the car is totaled, they pay me the actualy cash value and then BMW Financial Services will pay the difference with the gap insurance that is included in every BMW lease. So where does that leave me? I had a 39 month lease and got to use 7 months. I figure I am owed $2462.

at what point is the car actually going to be totaled? I am never going to be happy with a repair job and I feel like there is much more damage then anyone thinks. I really dont want them estimating it will cost $20,000 then it actually costing $35,000 and nothing will ever "feel right".

ahhh and nothing is as good with out pics:

First, good to hear that you are ok, and that your BMW protected you so well in what sounds like a hellacious wreck!

Second, I can't speak intelligently about the financial side of your lease, but I don't know that it's competely up to you about totalling the vehicle. I think that may be up to the insurance company. They may declare the vehicle "totaled" based on the repair costs vs. value of the vehicle. If they do, you can still get it repaired, but I'm not sure that's smart or financially sound.:dunno:

Please let us know how it works out.

Well i got official word that it is totaled. I just called the Acura dealership and got a 2006 TSX with NAVI. I still dont know what exactly happens to the money down on the BMW, but I am pretty happy with them totaling it.

Now anyone want to buy my Sirius radio unit and/or my autodiming rear view mirror with HomeLink? they are both plug and play with all X3 and prob more.

how much for mirror?

MysticBlueX3 02-17-2006 12:53 AM

Can you sell the car parts? I thought the leasing company owns the car?

DINANM3 02-17-2006 01:05 AM

Glad to hear everything went well, and that you're OK. That said, I'm definitely interested in the Sirius unit. PM me, will ya? And yeah, just curious: why didn't you get another X3? I totaled my '04 last September, and promptly replaced it with an '06 without even considering anything else.

Its totalled

Wait...you're getting an Acura. You just walked away from a serious wreck without a scratch in a BMW and you're moving to an Acura....impact was more serious then you thought :)

Interested in the Homelink

Ouch...that looks pretty banged up. My '06 X3 was rear ended over the weekend. :thumbdown No real damage to the SAV, but the bumper sustained some deep gouges. I'm getting the bumper replaced courtesy of the offender's insurance company.

BTW, I'm interested in you Homelink. PM Sent.
