Need your opinion (again)

Ok, I know I said I was just going to paint my oem wheels black and be done with it. But I ran across these wheels today and I think they look pretty good. 19x8.5 35 offset front, 19x9.5 40 offset rear. Will that work on my car? What offsets are within range for the x for this setup? What do you guys think?

I didn't get a chance to pshop the rear wheels too.

Anyone know what the offsets are on the style #114 staggered wheels?

818Guy 02-17-2006 09:06 PM

Front page young grasshopper.

Those wheels look quite good......remind me of the Hartge classics. I have a soft spot for multispoke rims.

I love multispoke rims. Esp. on hatchbacks.

simoncpw 02-18-2006 02:57 AM

Assuming you fit the recommended tyres set up,these wheels should be fine on your X3.They will just stickout 11mm(about 0.5") further out than the oem 18"s,thus giving you a more agressive look!

818Guy 02-18-2006 11:05 AM

Be careful with them sticking out that far. Front may rub...

DINANM3 02-18-2006 05:16 PM

Get the ones on the front

White05X3 02-18-2006 08:43 PM

They look nice, but look tough to clean. How about some low dust brake pads to go with those???

MysticBlueX3 02-18-2006 09:29 PM

Thanks for all the feedback guys. :) I am definitely going with the multi spoke brushed aluminum look. Now I just have to make sure I find a set of wheels with good fitment. I'll probably check out some local shops and see if I can find some. I rather get them at a physical shop where they will guarantee fitment than an online shop.

matt20043.0 02-18-2006 09:38 PM

Looks good :)

xx3 02-19-2006 06:59 AM

Tell you what, keep your stock wheels, save the money and send it to me ! So that I can buy euro lights !

MysticBlueX3 02-20-2006 12:58 AM

I just can't decide, these Beyern Mesh type wheels are growing on me now. 19x8.5 front 40 offset, 19x9.5 rear 45 offset

How about how much they weight? :)

818Guy 02-21-2006 08:10 PM

Come on, I can't just give you all the answers all the time. ;)

Honestly, I don't know.

dwayneworld 02-21-2006 08:14 PM

they're ugly, go with bmw oem's

rickp 02-21-2006 08:48 PM

What about BBS LM or RGRs?

MysticBlueX3 02-21-2006 09:40 PM

I liked the lip on these and I didn't want to get the 2pc or 3pc look.

rickp 02-21-2006 09:42 PM

Are they lighter? A lower unsprung weight would be nice.

MysticBlueX3 02-21-2006 10:05 PM

I think its about 23 lbs for 19". This info is useless cause I don't know what my oem weights. Played w/ photoshop some more and here another pic. I think I'm about to pull the triger.

Your photoshop skill is getting better and better

Personally I like the previous one better on a Mystic Blue. Good luck!

Thanks! You mean the gloss black look or are you talking about the 1st pic on this thread?

Juanted 02-22-2006 12:07 PM

Not my taste, but hey, if you like them, that's what matters. Good luck, and post pics afterward -- whatever wheels you decide to get.

Juan

simoncpw 02-22-2006 12:26 PM

I was talking about the 1st pic on this thread.

But now that you mentioned the gloss black again... tough choices man! Have you try to photoshop it again with a photo taken with the sun shinning on the rims? you might see the better result.

SuaveX5 02-22-2006 12:38 PM

the wheels on your firs post looks hot, i think they are your best choice so far:thumbup:

rickp 02-22-2006 12:43 PM

With your new rims, you might want to lower it a few inches. I've done a PhotoChop of what that would look like.

MysticBlueX3 02-22-2006 01:48 PM

Thanks for all the input guys. It is a though choice esp. if you going to spend 2k on a tire wheel package.

Yup, i'm planning on getting the HR springs =) no matter which wheel I decide to go with.

Here is my delima.

- Stick w/ OEM wheels and powder coat them gloss black or gloss gun metal. I would save myself 1K on new wheels and only spend like $200 on powder coating.
- 1st rims on post. I'm not sure about the quality of these wheels. Fitment is also qestionable. Haven't even heard of AZA before. Anyone have suggestions on another wheel that look like these? I mean there are the Hamman ones and HRE ones but they are both in the 4K range. I'm looking for $1500 max.
- Beyern wheels. They are designed for BMWs by TSW. Reputable company. Fitment is perfect. 3" lip, wow! Heard alot of nice things about them.

HRE
http://www.hrewheels.com/images/wheels/549R_lrg_a.jpg
Hamann
http://www.tuningnews.net/gallery/ha...mann-x3-12.jpg
It's amazing how hamann got rid of that 4" gap between the wheel and wheel well we have on our cars.

simoncpw 02-22-2006 02:31 PM

My recommendation on this:

- stick with your current rims, they do look great, gloss black them to be a little bit more special if you want. I would save the money and get the bodykit, which IMO has a MUCH greater visual impact (or even just paint the bumpers)

I stayed away from the multi-spoke and 5 spoke because they are too comment. I also find a lot of the rims look good only if the car is lower or with some sport-looking body kit (your current black fender trim is the opposite directly - makes the car look higher than, as a nice SUV look should be!)

I hope I didn't create more delima to you

Good Luck!

818Guy 02-22-2006 03:22 PM

What size tires are you going to use?

I really don't think they will fit in the front... 35 offset will probably cause them to rub on turns.

Overall diamter is smaller by 14mm, side will stick out 10mm

Future / Current
Beyern Type Mesh Silver / OEM Style #114
Hankook K104s / Dunlop Sport 01
245/40-19 19x8.5 40ET front / 235/50-18 18x8 46ET
255/40-19 19x9.5 45ET rear / 255/45-18 18x9 51ET
H&R springs / oem sport springs
Balance, alignment, labor
total = $2500 (I think its a good deal if that includes tax)

Edit: eurorev quoted me $2000 for 20" + tire + mount and bal. They told me they have put 21"s on a X3 before, forgot the brand of the wheel. I guess I'm going w/ 20s

that's my concern... during a full turn what is going to happen? rub? hit suspension components?

go for it but if you're going mail order ask what the return policy is...

btw, based upon my personal experience, Eibach springs are going to be "softer" than H&R; for everyday use, Eibach might be a better choice IMO.

also, you may want to look for different tires... i was looking at hankook but after reading reviews (tirerack.com and other sites).... "you get what you pay for."

MysticBlueX3 02-22-2006 05:47 PM

10mm = 0.4 in. I don't think it should be a problem. Eurorev is a local shop by my house and they said they will guarentee fitment. Too bad the 20s are not instock. Gotta wait 4-6 weeks. :(

Thanks for the tip on the springs. I do more research on them. As for tires, I'll probably go w/ Toyos.

Ok, guy quoted wrong tires. 235/45-19 will be perfect. Width will be the same. Overall diameter will be 2mm bigger which is nothing. Now the problem w/ the 20s is that there is no perfect fit for the front. I would have to go w/ 235/35-20 which will cause my overall diameter to be 2.2" smaller. Width will be the same.

hmmm looked at Eibach site today; they are being "developed" by Eibach... i thought they were already available... :dunno:

MysticBlueX3 02-22-2006 10:03 PM

They are avaliable, i've seen it. BTW no go on the 20s cause there are no correct fit tires for the front wheels. The tires are either too tall or too short which would cause traction control problems because the front wheels will be spinning at a different speed than the rear.

If I make sure the tire diameter is the same on both front and rear (spining at same speed), technically it shouldn't cause any computer problems?

THIS IS WITH 275/40/20 (20X8.5 5-120/114 18C) it fits fine no rubbing .i have more pictures available .

White05X3 02-23-2006 07:13 PM

Just one thought about the eibach springs...

I would hesitate to lower the car without matching struts. What ends-up happening is that the OE shocks have x inches of travel (let's say 8 for argument). If you lower the car 2" with springs using the OE shocks, you lose a 2" of travel. This will hurt the ride substantially and will cause the car to be jumpy in turns. Moreover I think you increase the roll-over risk because the shocks will always be partially compressed. Thus any time you put the shocks into rebound they may tend to rebound more abruptly thereby causing tipping. Add grippier tires to the mix and I think it is a bad recipe.

If you are going to do springs then do shocks too. The only maunfacturer I found who does both is AC Schnitzer, but their setup is hella expensive.

818Guy 02-23-2006 07:56 PM

Yes. Also will shorten the lift of the factory shocks, whether Eibach or H&R.

Well, they're selling Eibach on ebay for about $225. I guess Eibach is a bit behind updating their web-site... :dunno:
