weapon r dragon intake

Quick review of the Weapon-R Dragon intake. Cost: $95.00. Filter looks really good. A lot bigger than I expected. Mounting "bracket" sucks. I'll have to strengthen that later. Drove around the block. To be honest, I don't hear anything, same as stock. Can't really tell on throttle response either. :dunno:

In fact, I actually like this $40 ebay purchase better. I've been driving around with it for the past week. As of right now, I get more "sound" from it around 4k rpms. Yes, it's hard plastic, but isn't that the same material as the OEM intake box? :wow: ;)

Nice pics! Sorry to hear the Dragon-R didn't do any good. Maybe the warm air is taking away any gains you are getting w/ the bigger filter. The green intake is like somthing out of war of the worlds.

818 guy have u tried going faster speed & higher rpm? also u got the green intake of e bay, do you have the store name? it looks good .....

It's just strange to not have any "sound" from the Weapon R. Granted it was only a short trip around the block but I had the window open to listen and nothing. I got to about 5k rpms in manual mode before I shifted.

I'll give it a go tomorrow (Sat.) and see if it sounds any different.

Got the ebay one from "proexhaust."

As with this one and the Weapon R you'll need a 3.5" to 3.0" reducer for these to "fit." I just happened to have one from an old K&N intake. You can find the reducers on eBay as well.

I wasn't even aware intakes like the Weapon R were made for BMW's. I know they are popular with Honda/Nissan/Acura and other Japanese vehicles.

I'm also surprised you didn't hear a difference. Let us know if you hear anything different today.
And yeah, that green one looks funky.

Yeah, took the X3 to the gym this morning. GF confirmed the other intake has more sound than the Weapon R. I'll put some more miles on it and see if there's any change (air flow adaptation?). I'm kinda bummed about this...

Can you return your weapon-R intake? I found a place that sells the AFE intake for $330 sihpped. I'm kinda tempted, although I hear AFE is really loud and I'm not sure if that's what I want. I'm trying to convince ECIS to let me try their intake and return it for a full refund if it doesn't fit.
