Oil Question

For those who have changed thier own oil. What brand have you used for your X3? I am not going to wait for another 10,000 miles.

Castrol SYNTEC 5W30 every 7500 miles

By the way ab says
“ It takes a 36MM socket to get the filter off ”

Does anyone know how much the $ealer charges for unscheduled oil changes? I'm thinking about having one done now that 1,300 miles have past (post break-in). Thanks.

That is the punishment for wanting one without the computer telling you first. I would rather they just give me a spanking.

I paid 75 Euros and bought my own oil. The dealer charges 19.95 Euros a litter for synthetic oil. That's about $100 just for oil.

Yep...those suckers are hard to find! Most auto part stores don't keep them together with the rest of the sockets. You have to go to the tranny or differential sections of the stores to find these!

Doing it yourself isn't gonna be THAT MUCH cheaper than what most stealers charges (~$80). 8.5 quarts @ $5 per = $42.5 in synthetic oil alone. Add another $20 or so for the filter and you're already in the $60s. So about $15-$20 bucks in labor isn't all that bad...if you don't want to get your hands dirty

You can purchase the OEM filters here for 7.30 at this place http://www.autopartswarehouse.com This is where I got mine.
