New X3

Hi All,

With all this talk about the new X5, when can we expect a new X3?

Thanks

6-7 years after initial production of current model, with a probable facelift prior.

I was thinking that the spy shots of the new X5 looked more like a new X3

It will definitely be interesting to see what BMW does with the X3. When sales sucked on the 2.5 X3 they pulled it after only 2 years, which is odd for BMW. So the question is, what would the engine options be for the new X3?

If I could be in the engineering room, here is my thought:
I6 diesel engine
I6 3.0 255hp engine
I6 3.2 S54 330hp engine

To me it seems that all the car companies, aside from GM, in a move to make all their BIG SUV's quick forgot to make a smaller SUV rip up the pavement as well. GM introduced the SS Trailblazer, a smaller SUV with tons of power...but most focus on the larger vehicles: X5, Porsche Cayanne, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, ML500, etc.. And with that a much higher price tag given the already large scale of the car and the more marquee status. However the smaller variants could be potent...cheaper..and draw attention to the brand. Side note: as for the X5 I would have really hoped they would offer a 5.0 variant of the V10 with 500hp in the X5.

If BMW wanted to put a serious hurt on other automakers and really get some attention on the X series, a 3.2 S54 would do the trick. While that engine wouldn't offer a whole lot to the X5, considering a 355 variant V8 is already available, it would offers a substantial boost to the X3.

Fantasy land is fun.

Super Greg,

What year did the x3 come out?

The spyshots I have viewed look more like a X3 than the X5.

Thanks

Here are some huckfeldt pictures of the supposed refresh coming soon. Some say its going to occur at the end of this year, and come out in dealerships early next. I think that sounds a little early for me, considering the E60 (released earlier then the X3) hasn't been refreshed, and nor has the E63 (released at the same time as the X3) hasn't been refreshed either...

Some argue that the E83 will get an earlier refresh then the E60 and E63, because of the fact that BMW wants to make changes to the E83 engine line-up and look at the same time as BMW releases the new E70... hmm..

Anywho, here are the pics... Notice the horizontal lines in the rear taillights (in keeping with the new BMW lighting sheme, E90, E63, E65, refreshed E85) and the new lower plastic bumpers (in keeping with the new E70). Autocar I believe has a picture of a mule where you can clearly see the fiber optic horizontal lights - thats floating somewhere around the web...

I'm 50/50 on the front but the rear looks hot

Not much of a difference for me, even compared to the 2004. I like it though.

The thing is though, we already get the full Aerokit bumpers here in the U.S. So what is rendered there might be what the rest of the world is going to get instead of what we see on U.S. shores...

True, its not much of a refresh, but apparently most of the work has been done to the interior...
