BMW lied to me...

Ive had the car since feb 24 and since thursday she's had the rear tire flat...
They towed her this morning to a local garage that works with my dealership and the mechanic tells me I dnt have RunFlat tires and the tire would cost me about 500 swiss francs wich is about 350$.
I then called my dealer to ask him about this nonsense. He remembers perfectly telling me I had RunFlat tires.
They then towed her to the dealership and now im waiting for him to call me.

But this is so weird, Im told I have RunFlats, I have no spare whatsoever in the back so something is very wrong here.
I miss her

Don't run flats indicate that they are runflats? What are the make/model of the tires exactly?

BMW didn't lie, the dealer did.

Quicksilver 04-18-2006 03:24 PM

Are we talking about an X? Or what. And yeah dealer lied maybe. Depends what on your order sheet. Did you go over that before taking delivery? Fill in the blanks. We need more info.

Roc3b 04-18-2006 03:26 PM

It is true...the xwife was looking at the new 3 and there is nothing in the boot...Oh runn Flat...I remember making a joke about the chain smoking smoking engineers trying to figure out where to put the spare...."actung...Ruuuuuuuuun...flllat" Is good yah?! Hmm...Ruuun phlat..yes! yes!...cigarette?!!!

Run Flats always seemed dumb to me. The idea that instead of a spare tire giving you the capability to possibly save a damaged tire, we will give you a 'run flat' that once it has run flat, can't be repaired...oh and will make it 2 times the cost.

lol..

gluck let us know what happens... def make teh dealer pay for it if he lied..

elijah.vdp 04-18-2006 03:40 PM

Yes we are talking about an X3, when we took delivery of the car he said there is no spare because you have runflats.
Ive never seen the order sheet as I did not order the car.

Quicksilver 04-18-2006 03:45 PM

Hmmm This is new. I never knew any X came with run flats. Is there a place for a spare?

DINANM3 04-18-2006 03:47 PM

x3s dont come with run flats and should have a spare tire just like the X5s

elijah.vdp 04-18-2006 03:49 PM

^^nope theres no space, under the trunk there are a bunch of tools and such...

I never even knew it was an option to have runflats, and I doubt my mom would order such a thing but he's the one who told us

Roc3b 04-18-2006 03:56 PM

Isn't the spare tire under the vehicle near the trunk? I don't think you would see the spare in the trunk. Just a handle to release the spare.

YankeeBimmer 04-18-2006 06:03 PM

Sorry to hear that! It would not be the first time BMW lies!

motordavid 04-18-2006 06:25 PM

RFTs...
Some guys on the X3 RoadToad bored mentioned they have
run flats.

Could not discern if it was a "pkg" thing, or
a running change, near end of model production.

^^Maybe 2006 models have runflats. Mine is a 2006. Im sure there are no spare tires at all. When the mechanic came to tow the car he checked it out and there was no spare.

I have a 2006 X3, and there is a spare.

simoncpw 04-19-2006 02:13 AM

As someone pointed out above, the spare tire suppose to be located UNDER the vehicle in the rear, not inside the truck.

I've never heard the X3 comes with Run-Flat tires, but even if it does, isn't it suppose to only let you run for some km more to get you to the nearest workshop without damaging your rims? If the tire is damaged badly and not fixable, you would still have to buy a new one? US$300+ for a Run-Flat sound about right?... just my 2 cents

elijah.vdp 04-19-2006 05:47 AM

I wish I could check under the car for a spare but the car is at the dealership, I might just stop by and find out whats happening later.

iguassu 04-19-2006 05:23 PM

I believe you will find the spare wheel hides under the car with a wind-down handle in the "tool-zone" under the boot/trunk floor panel.
Read the user manual to see the details.
BTW - I suggest you buy that "mechanic" a monkey-wrench since a monkey would have found the spare wheel under the car in no time at all. Additionally, any BMW mechanic should have known where the wheel might have been and even without having ever seen one he should have been able to recognise the round, tyre shaped item under the car behind the rear bumper. Bah-humbug..!
Good luck - your non-run-flat tyre must be trashed as well as your wheel rim. Ouch..$$$...!

B&DCalgary 04-20-2006 11:46 PM

Read your manual, it tells you exactly where the spare is  . There is a handle in the rear where all the tools are that will release the spare tire. You can't see it just by looking. I'm always baffled when people spend hours asking questions on a forum that can be answered in 30 seconds if they'd crack open the owner's manual.

If the sales rep at your dealer told you your X3 had run-flats, then he's a twit that should spend more time working on his product knowledge.

Quicksilver 04-21-2006 08:09 PM

Well, Did you find the spare???:dunno:

elijah.vdp 04-22-2006 10:38 PM

On thursday when I went to pick it up, they made me pay 390$ for a new tire. Later on that evening they called me to admit it was their mistake and i was going to get all my money back.
End of the story. So I dont have runflats, they showed me where the spare is...
