BMW X3: Bavarian force package in new Look
BMW revised the jeep X3 optically and above all technically. New Top motorizing is now a three-litre turbo-Diesel, which carries 286 HP out. The engine offer is supplemented by two high performance 3.0 and 2.5 litre Benziner.

Altogether three petrol engines and three diesel sets stand to the selection for the follow-up generation of the Bavaria SUVs, which rolls on 23 September to the dealers. As entrance variant both with gasoline he and with the Diesel variants a 2,0-Liter-Vierzylinder with in each case 150 HP still serves.

New Top motorizing is BMW X3 3.0sd, which carries 286 HP and 580 Nm out with its twin turbo-Diesel (with Common Rail injection and particle filter). Thus the X3 is to accelerate in 6.6 seconds of zero on 100 km/h and to reach a Topspeed of 240 km/h. Otherwise are available the long-proven three and two-litre Diesel with in each case 218 HP and 500 Nm as well as 150 HP and 330 Nm. The new generation of the row six cylinder covers two high performance 3.0 and 2.5 litre Benziner, which in each case 272 HP and 315 Nm respectively 218 HP and 250 Nm carry out.

With the basis engines the X3 should be fast 198 km/h, as 3.0d and 2.5si runs the X3 220 km/h and as 3.0si full 232 km/h.

In addition among the technical innovations a further developed six-course mechanism ranks. Optically dezent one improved
The classical six-eye face remains and becomes only by new double round headlights (Klarglas) and somewhat fog headlights moved outward geliftet. Depending upon model differently dyed lattice props underline the changed Look. The bumper units are divided and to the majority into car color painted both in front and in the back in two levels. The tail lamp units with clear coverdeckgläsern light staffs horizontal over LED-fed are to provide for a concise night Design.

In the wheel housings 17-Zoll of light alloy wheels turn, with the Top model X3 3.0sd are it in series 18-Zöller. Optionally BMW customers can fall back in addition, to 19-Zöller. Foot pedals with high-grade steel applications are with the sportiest X3-Modell series likewise. Outwardly he emphasizes himself in addition by a sportily stressed tail apron and the more largely dimensioned final pipes of its exhaust system.

In the Interieur the X3-Liebhaber has the choice between four equipment variants, ten external colors, six equipment colors and five decoration surface variants. The selection of the materials reaches from the classical-elegant wood execution up to stresses sporty note in the aluminum Look. The instrument panel possesses a new decoration border, which in color and material agrees with the decoration surfaces of the center console. Against surcharge sport and comfort seats are available.
Security on board
The driving dynamics regulation DSC (dynamic stability control) was extended by additional functions, which affects also brake readiness, traction control, Fadingausgleich, pumping dry function, Hill the cent control (HDC) and trailer stabilization. For better visibilities in the dark Bi-xenon-headlights and adaptive curve light in series, bending light provide are optional. In the Inneraum belong front, side and Vorhangairbags to the standard.

Hmm Better but I still don't like it, but much better!

motordavid 06-27-2006 12:26 PM

Thanks, LM...You are TheMan when it comes
to spy pics!

Ah, I'd love a 3.0 oil burner here in the colonies...

Not sure I'm digging that busy front end, cum black plastic
re-do; I thought we finally ditched the Jeep/clad look here
in the states.

Not my wheel choice, either: can you imagine detailing those
finger benders?

I really like the X3...I just need more reasons/rationale to get one.

Otoh, I may just sit on DaFridge for theCEO and my ol' 01 X5 until
my ext warr runs out in fall of '07. These new rides are getting
very pricey, if one doesn't lease.

Thanks again, for the Pics, LM!

PS: NE1 know for sure if style 132s off an X5 fit on an X3?

rangerfan 06-27-2006 12:32 PM

It is an improvement. I still don't like the rear--it's too busy.

I like it a lot, this interior is still so much better than the E70.

Its a Hella patent. A lighted optical fibre horizontal strip as shown in pic below. Its in the new X5 as well.

CELIS® Light Guide Technology
Offering new and versatile design possibilities, CELIS® (Central Lighting Systems) fibre optic lighting technology is highly sought after by European car manufacturers and the distinct CELIS light guides were previously reserved for original equipment lighting products in luxury passenger cars such as BMW.

You are welcome, MD. Those wheels are supposed to be top-of-line 19" wheels and will fit E70 as well. Are you planning to move to X3 with 132s?

Thanks LeMans - very cool indeed!

X5Jay 06-27-2006 02:08 PM

I really like that little piece of trim on the steering wheel - amazing what a difference such a small change can make. I also see in one of the bottom pics that the pedals also have some new metal trim on them - I like that too. Overall - I like the changes... One thing I forgot to note - They still fall short on the exhaust - the tail pipes should be one each side, not both together on one side. That makes a HUGE diff. in appearance IMHO...

peoe2 06-27-2006 02:44 PM

It's growing on me. The interior is about the same, the added trim on the dashboard does make it more of a luxury car.

As for the bumpers, I'm don't like the plastic trim in on the sides of the back bumper. The front bumper needs to be more aggressive. Better than the all black bumpers (which are not bad) but I still prefer the 06 'sports kit' bumpers or the optional aero kit.

The LEDs look cool. I don't know how to react to the all white on top red at the bottom design of the taillights. I think it looks okay.

The current 3.0 225hp engine is plenty of power, I wonder what the new engine will feel like. I read mixed reviews about it.

Change is good, IMO BMW doesn't have the X3 quite polished yet but they're getting there.

edit: The front bumper has grown on me, I like it.

Jes'wondering about the offset of 132 staggereds on an X3...I have seen some style 87s, so I know they will "go on", but my offset site shows them to be a tad on the edge vis a vis, fitting/sitting well on an X3.

I kick the X3 idea around regularly...but,theCEO likes DaFridge for a gopher/local car and I can't disagree. If/when my '01 X5 is gonzo, I just
suspect that a $60G+ replacement is out of the budget and/or hard to
justify. A loaded X3 is no bargain, either.

Jes' thinking out loud.

Thanks for the Celis def.; I searched the web and knew it was lights, as in brighter/LED style lights, though the Wik gave up this def, for beer, :

Regarding the interior, one of the changes that you can't really see from these pics is that they have (supposedly) upgraded the quality of materials used. I have a much larger version of that interior pic, and in it you can see what looks like a higher quality, softer textured finish on the dash and center console. Also, the door panels have leather with stitching on them, unlike the current model with hard plastic. The wood and aluminum trim options also look to be higher quality (better grain on the wood, and the aluminum is no longer the "polka-dot" stuff that they currently have).

The new X3 looks alot more X5-ish with its black exterior trim, revised tail lights, dash trim, and new steering wheel. The dash trim especially livens up the interior which previously did not have enough contrasting colors.

The thing I dislike the most about the X3's are the rear quarter windows in the cargo area. I don't like how the window's bottom edge turns up over the rear wheels. A more conventional Hofmeister Kink would have looked much better.

I can't believe we're looking at facelift pictures of vehicle that just got facelifted. Where are the darn E70 production pictures?

X3 of Miami 06-28-2006 12:36 AM

wowww i love it... i think the lights int he back are nice ... and would like to c em at night im sure they would look slickk... also , the front grill is greatttt 4.4 x5 grill !!!!!!!!! the part i lvoed most is definatley the front of the car.. it looks very aggresive! the bumper is very good how it goes from painted to plastic to painted again makes it look awesome!!! the wheels.. ehhh id change em.. too hard to clean.. the steering wheel i like alot.. but that sterring wheel is heavvy! ive driven it on te 3 series.. id get the easy-steering pkg lik ei got now... i forgot hwut its called.. (oops).. ih ope they keep the white corner lights for all the x3's not only euros.. i would love to see that in the u.s.- and the black interior with the silver trim still looks amazing! i reallllly liike this look on the x3 facelift IMHO

Do you mean like if they carried the bottom horizontal line a little farther back before the kink? I could see that... Might look good.

And I guess the yearly facelifts will make it easy to tell model years apart!

xx3 06-28-2006 02:32 AM

Wow so hot... Maybe I won't get a E92 or E85 after all !

The new wood should be nice.

Has anyone noticed how the nets in the doors are no longer present? And replaced with true pockets.

I will miss mystic blue though... Monaco blue isn't very enticing and montego is very in your face...

The old X3 looked great, but this one looks a lot more business like and professional.

Good job BMW.

Edit: Ooh, the leather stitching on the doors looks fabulous as well ! I'll be very interested to see what the two tone, beige & black look like..!

I want that grill if its any different from mine and these rims

GLad I never waited, and Im happy I bought my 06 3.0D Sport

SimpleMind 07-09-2006 09:25 PM

I find it amazing that BMW has yet to release the Diesel option here in the US.
Remember.....I thought we have a fuel crisis going on! Anyway, the Mercedes also doesn't offer their fine turbo diesel (that outperforms their gas counterpart) in their new SAV.

Help me out here, what going on? Maybe the timing with low sulfur standards, effective this fall, is to blame!

I would easilly spend the $2k-3k premium to that T-Diesel.

BRING IT ON....please!

BMW has repeated on several occasions that the X5 will be the first diesel vehicle the U.S. will see...

So they are coming, just slowly...

How can it be the first diesel vehicle in the USA? You guys have just started to receive the SMART cars, and also Benz has been selling the E320 CDI for 2 years now.

Perhaps the X5 will be the first diesel-powered SUV.

BTW, forgot to comment on the facelifted X3. I think it looks plainly HOT, and completely turns around the image which the X3 has been carrying so far.

blondboinsd 07-10-2006 04:24 PM

Yeah Def an improvement, I'm happy they replaced that horrible hard plastics, I'd wish for the following
-a more comftorable rear seat
-Side window sunshades
-rear air vents and controls
